5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the battery pack upwards until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, press the battery release latch and slide the battery downwards.

5.2 Antenna Attachment

  1. Screw the SMA-Female antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector on top of the radio until it is finger-tight.
  2. Do not overtighten.

5.3 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the 3800mAh Li-ion battery. The UV-5RM features a convenient Type-C charging port.

  1. Connect the provided Type-C charging cable to the radio's Type-C port.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., laptop, power bank, car charger, USB wall adapter).
  3. The charging indicator on the radio will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

Rotate the power/volume knob clockwise to turn on the radio. Rotate counter-clockwise until it clicks to turn off.

6.2 Frequency and Channel Selection

  • Use the VFO/MR button to switch between Frequency Mode (VFO) and Channel Mode (MR).
  • In VFO mode, enter frequencies directly using the keypad.
  • In MR mode, use the UP/DOWN arrow keys or the keypad to select from the 999 memory channels.

6.3 Transmitting and Receiving

  • Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio to transmit. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • Release the PTT button to receive.

6.4 Wireless Frequency Copy

The UV-5RM supports wireless frequency copying, allowing you to quickly clone frequencies from another radio.
