Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Five Star 1/700 US Navy YC-293 Steel-housed Barge (Non Self-propelled) model kit. This highly detailed resin model allows you to recreate a historical US Navy barge in 1:700 scale. This manual provides essential information for the assembly, care, and maintenance of your model.

What's Included
Your model kit package should contain the following components:
- 1 x YC-293 Hull (3D Printed Resin)
- 1 x Photo-Etched (PE) parts sheet
- 1 x Decal sheet
Please inspect all parts upon opening the package to ensure everything is present and undamaged. Contact your retailer immediately if any parts are missing or defective.
Setup and Assembly
This model kit requires assembly. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. Tools and adhesives are not included and must be purchased separately. We recommend using cyanoacrylate (CA) glue for resin and photo-etched parts, and appropriate modeling paints.
- Preparation: Carefully remove all resin parts from their casting blocks. Clean any flash or mold lines using a hobby knife and fine-grit sandpaper. Wash all resin and photo-etched parts with mild soap and water to remove any release agents, then let them dry completely.
- Photo-Etched Parts: Carefully cut the photo-etched parts from their fret using a sharp hobby knife or specialized photo-etch shears. Bend parts to shape as indicated in the diagram using photo-etch bending tools if necessary.
- Test Fitting: Before applying any adhesive, dry-fit all parts to ensure proper alignment and fit. Make any necessary adjustments by gently sanding or trimming.
- Assembly Sequence: Follow the numbered steps and arrows in the assembly diagram (Figure 2) for the correct order of attaching components.
- Attach parts labeled '2' to the hull.
- Position optional parts as desired.
- Secure parts '3' to the structure.
- Assemble parts '7+9' and '7+8*2' as indicated.
- Attach parts '5' and '6*2'.
- Finally, add parts '10+11'.
- Decal Application: Once painting is complete and dry, apply the decals as shown in the diagram. Use decal setting solutions for best results.

Operating (Display and Handling)
Once assembled and painted, your YC-293 barge model is ready for display. Handle the model with care to prevent damage to delicate parts, especially the photo-etched components. Avoid exposing the model to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, which can cause paint fading or warping of resin parts.
Maintenance
To keep your model in pristine condition:
- Cleaning: Dust the model regularly with a soft brush or a can of compressed air. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen a soft cloth with water (no harsh chemicals) and gently wipe the surface.
- Storage: Store the model in a dust-free environment, ideally in a display case, to protect it from dust and accidental damage.
Troubleshooting
While model kits are generally straightforward, you might encounter minor issues:
- Parts not fitting: Gently sand or trim the contact surfaces. Ensure you are using the correct parts as per the diagram.
- Decals not adhering: Ensure the surface is clean and smooth. Use a decal setting solution to help the decal conform to the surface and adhere better.
- Broken small parts: Resin and photo-etched parts can be delicate. If a small part breaks, use a small amount of CA glue to reattach it. For very small or lost parts, consider scratch-building a replacement if you have the necessary skills and materials.

User Tips
- Always test fit parts before applying glue. This helps identify and correct any fit issues beforehand.
- Use specialized tools for photo-etched parts, such as bending pliers and a fine-tipped hobby knife, for cleaner results.
- Apply paint in thin, even coats to preserve surface detail. Multiple thin coats are better than one thick coat.
- Consider using a magnifying lamp or optivisor for working with small parts and fine details.
- Take your time and enjoy the building process. Rushing can lead to mistakes.
