5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The PM1508 requires 4 AA alkaline batteries (IEC LR6) for operation. To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the device is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery cover.
- Insert 4 AA alkaline batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

5.2 Connecting Test Leads
Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) input terminal and the black test lead to the negative (-) input terminal. For common measurements, the black lead is connected to the COM terminal.
6. Operating Instructions
Turn the rotary switch to the desired measurement function. Press the 'TEST' button to initiate measurements in insulation resistance mode.
6.1 Function Button Overview
- COMP Function: In insulation resistance measurement mode, press 'COMP' to activate the comparison function. Select a comparison value (e.g., 100KΩ to 500MΩ). Press and hold to exit. In low resistance mode, press to toggle continuity beeping.
- ZERO Function: In continuity/low resistance mode, press 'ZERO' to enable/disable the zeroing function. This is effective only when short-circuit resistance is less than 2Ω.
- HOLD Function: In non-insulation test modes, press 'HOLD' to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to exit. In insulation resistance test mode, HOLD is automatically activated after a single measurement.
- LOCK Function: Available only in insulation resistance measurement mode. Press 'LOCK' to toggle the function. When LOCK is ON, press 'TEST' to start/end the test.
- Polarization Index (PI)/Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR): In insulation resistance test mode, press this key before starting a measurement to enable PI/DAR. Select PI (10min:1min) or DAR (60s:15s or 60s:30s). After measurement, press to switch between insulation resistance ratio values.
- TEST Function: In insulation test mode, if LOCK is ON, press 'TEST' to start/end. If LOCK is OFF, press and hold 'TEST' to measure, release to end.
- Backlight Function: Press the backlight button to turn the LCD backlight ON/OFF. If not manually turned off, it will automatically turn off after 30 seconds.
