4. Setup and Assembly
4.1 Assembling the GX850 Metal Detector
- Attach the Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem using the provided non-metallic bolt and nut. Ensure it is securely fastened but not overtightened.
- Connect the Stems: Insert the lower stem into the middle stem, and then the middle stem into the upper stem. The adjustable stem allows you to customize the detector's length for comfortable use.
- Mount the Control Box: Slide the control box onto the upper stem. Secure it in place.
- Wrap the Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem, ensuring it is not too tight or loose, and plug the connector into the control box's designated port.
- Install the Armrest: Attach the armrest to the upper stem. The armrest and body mechanics handle are designed for comfortable and stable operation.
4.2 Battery Installation
The GX850 metal detector and GT-110 pinpointer both require 9V batteries (not included).
- GX850: Locate the battery compartment on the control box (refer to Figure 3). Open it and insert one 9V alkaline battery, observing the correct polarity.
- GT-110: Unscrew the battery cover at the bottom of the pinpointer (refer to Figure 5). Insert one 9V alkaline battery, observing the correct polarity.
Important: Please use alkaline batteries. Other types of batteries (e.g., rechargeable lithium or carbon-zinc) may affect the normal operation of the device and potentially cause damage.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off
- GX850: Press the 'POWER' button on the control box to turn the detector on or off.
- GT-110: Press the switch button on the pinpointer to turn it on or off.
5.2 Detection Modes (GX850)
The GX850 offers two primary detection modes, selectable via the 'MODE' button:
- Coin Treasure Mode (Discrimination Mode): This mode allows you to discriminate between different types of metals, ignoring unwanted targets (e.g., iron). The LCD display will show target identification, and different metals will produce distinct audio tones. You can adjust the discrimination level to filter out specific metals.
- Prospecting Mode (All-Metal Mode): This mode detects all types of metals, providing maximum detection depth and sensitivity. It is ideal for finding gold nuggets and deeply buried relics. In this mode, you can adjust the Ground Balance from 0 to 99.9.
5.3 Adjustments and Controls (GX850)
Refer to Figure 4 for the location of these controls:
- GAIN: Adjusts the sensitivity of the detector. Higher gain increases detection depth but can also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
- THRESHOLD: Sets the background hum level in All-Metal mode. Adjust for a faint, stable hum.
- GROUND BALANCE (GND BAL): Crucial for eliminating false signals from ground mineralization. In All-Metal mode, adjust this to match the ground conditions. The range is from ferrite to salt water inclusive.
- PINPOINT (GG): Press and hold this button to narrow down the target location for precise recovery.
- SCREEN LIGHT: Activates the backlight for the LCD display in low-light conditions.
- EARPHONE JACK: Connect 1/4" or 1/8" headphones for private listening and to hear subtle target signals more clearly.
5.4 Using the GT-110 Pinpointer
Once a target is located with the GX850, use the GT-110 pinpointer for precise pinpointing:
- Turn on the GT-110.
- Scan the area where the target was detected. The pinpointer will emit audible and vibrating alarms that increase in intensity as you get closer to the target.
- Use the pinpoint tip for very precise location.
- The LED flash light can assist in low-light conditions.
5.5 Waterproof Search Coil
The 11-inch DD search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing it to be submerged in water for detecting in shallow streams, beaches, or other wet environments. Note: The LCD control box is NOT waterproof and must not be submerged.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the detector with a damp cloth. The search coil can be rinsed with fresh water if used in saltwater or muddy conditions. Ensure the control box remains dry.
- Battery Care: Always remove batteries from both the GX850 and GT-110 if the devices will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
- Storage: Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Cable Management: Avoid sharp bends or kinks in the search coil cable to prevent internal wire damage.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check if the batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Ensure alkaline batteries are used.
- Erratic Signals / False Alarms:
- Perform a proper Ground Balance procedure for the current ground conditions.
- Reduce the GAIN (sensitivity) setting.
- Ensure the search coil cable is securely connected and not damaged.
- Move away from sources of electromagnetic interference (power lines, other electronic devices).
- No Detection:
- Increase the GAIN (sensitivity) setting.
- Ensure the detector is in the correct mode (e.g., All-Metal for maximum depth).
- Check battery level.
- "Error Can't GG" on Display: This typically indicates an issue with Ground Balance. Re-perform the Ground Balance procedure. If the issue persists, contact support.

9. User Tips
- Battery Choice: Always opt for high-quality alkaline 9V batteries for both the GX850 and GT-110 to ensure stable performance and prevent potential damage from incompatible battery types.
- Ground Balance: Take the time to properly ground balance your detector before starting a search, especially when moving to new areas with different soil mineralization. This will significantly improve detection depth and reduce false signals.
- Headphones: Using headphones can help you hear faint signals from small or deep targets that might be missed with the built-in speaker, and also provides a more private detecting experience.
- Pinpointer Use: After locating a target with the main detector, use the GT-110 pinpointer to quickly and accurately narrow down the target's exact position, minimizing digging and potential damage to the target.
- Practice: Familiarize yourself with the different tones and LCD readings for various metals by testing known objects in a clean area before heading out for a real hunt.
