TIANXUN TX-850L Gold Metal Detector

Instruction Manual

Model: TX-850L | Brand: TIANXUN

Introduction

The TIANXUN TX-850L is an advanced metal detector specifically designed for gold mining exploration and relic hunting. It is an upgraded version of the TX-850, featuring an additional backlight mode function for improved visibility. This detector offers high sensitivity, a complex ground balance system, individual control of signal gain and threshold, and a unique identification control system. While powerful for coin detection, its primary design emphasizes small, low-conductivity metals like gold. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your TX-850L metal detector.

Key Features

  • High Sensitivity: Strong detection capability for various metals.
  • Identification: Differentiates between metal types with distinct tones and allows rejection of unwanted metals.
  • Precise Positioning (Pinpoint): Helps locate the exact position of buried objects.
  • LCD Display: Shows possible metal types, target depth, DISC & NOTCH range, SENS level, and battery status.
  • Ground Balance: Ignores or 'sees through' naturally occurring ground minerals, only signaling metal objects.
  • Target ID: Classifies different metal types on a 0-100 scale with a 2-digit digital readout for accurate recognition.
  • Backlight Mode: Enhanced visibility in low-light conditions (upgrade from TX-850).
  • Waterproof Search Coil: 11-inch DD coil, suitable for use under water.
  • Human Mechanics Handle: Ergonomically designed for comfortable, anti-slip grip.
  • Adjustable Stem: Allows adjustment of length from 31.5 to 45.2 inches for user comfort.
  • Detector Stand: Prevents damage when placing the detector on the ground.
  • Newly Upgraded Smart Chip: Provides higher anti-interference and accuracy, reducing blind digging.

Setup

1. Assembly

The TX-850L features an adjustable stem for comfortable use. To assemble:

  1. Attach the search coil to the lower stem.
  2. Connect the lower stem to the middle stem, ensuring the cable is securely wrapped around the stem.
  3. Attach the upper stem (with the control box and handle) to the middle stem.
  4. Adjust the stem length to a comfortable position (between 31.5 to 45.2 inches) using the 'PUSH IN' mechanism.
  5. Secure the armrest to the upper stem.
  6. Connect the search coil cable to the control box.

2. Battery Installation

The detector requires one 9V battery (not included). Open the battery compartment on the control box, insert the 9V battery, and close the compartment securely.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Turn the 'POWER' knob clockwise to power on the detector. Turn it counter-clockwise to power off.

2. Modes

The TX-850L offers different operating modes:

  • Discrimination Mode (DISC): Allows you to ignore certain types of metals (e.g., iron) and focus on more valuable targets. Adjust the 'MODE' knob to set the discrimination level.
  • All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metals without discrimination.
  • Pinpoint Mode (PP): Press the 'GG PIN POINT' button to activate. This mode helps narrow down the exact location of a detected target. The display will show a more precise reading as you get closer to the target.

3. Adjustments

  • GAIN: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity. Higher gain increases detection depth but can also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
  • THRESHOLD: Controls the background hum. Adjust it to a faint, steady hum for optimal performance.
  • GROUND BALANCE: Essential for stable operation in mineralized soil. Follow the on-screen prompts or refer to the video for detailed ground balancing procedures.
  • DISC LEVEL: Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the discrimination level, allowing you to accept or reject specific target IDs.

4. Interpreting the LCD Display

  • SIGNAL: Indicates the strength of the detected signal.
  • TARGET ID: A 2-digit number (0-100) that helps identify the type of metal. Lower numbers typically indicate ferrous (iron) metals, while higher numbers indicate non-ferrous metals like silver or gold.
  • DISC: Shows the current discrimination setting.
  • GND PHASE / GND BAL: Displays ground phase and ground balance values, crucial for proper ground balancing.
  • Battery Status: Indicates remaining battery life.

5. Demonstration Video

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: The search coil is waterproof and can be rinsed with fresh water. However, the control enclosure is NOT waterproof. Clean the control box with a damp cloth and avoid direct water exposure.
  • Battery Care: Remove the 9V battery when the detector is not in use for extended periods to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Cable Management: Ensure the search coil cable is not kinked or damaged. Secure it properly along the stem.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TX-850L, consider the following:

  • No Power: Check if the 9V battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Erratic Signals/False Alarms:
    • Perform ground balance again.
    • Reduce the GAIN (sensitivity) setting.
    • Ensure no other electronic devices are interfering nearby.
    • Check for loose connections in the search coil cable.
  • Poor Detection Depth:
    • Increase the GAIN (sensitivity) setting, but be mindful of false signals.
    • Ensure proper ground balance.
    • Check battery level.
  • Display Not Working: Check battery connection and charge. If the issue persists, contact customer support.

User Tips

  • For best results, practice with known metal objects in a clear area to understand how the detector responds to different targets and ground conditions.
  • Always perform ground balance before each use, especially when moving to a new search area, to ensure accurate detection and minimize false signals.
  • When using the pinpoint function, move the coil slowly over the target area in a 'X' pattern to precisely locate the object.
  • Consider using headphones (if available) to better hear subtle target signals and conserve battery life.
  • The newly upgraded smart chip enhances anti-interference, so trust the readings for higher accuracy and to avoid unnecessary digging.
