The JEYI 40Gbps USB 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure transforms your M.2 NVMe SSD into a compact, portable, and high-speed external storage solution. Featuring a USB4.0 Type-C output interface, it supports a maximum transmission speed of up to 40Gbps. Equipped with the advanced ASM2464 chip, it offers broad compatibility with Thunderbolt 3/4 and supports both PCIe and USB Dual Tunnels. 4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your M.2 NVMe SSD into the JEYI Enclosure:

  1. Unscrew the Back Cover: Use the provided screwdriver to twist the screws and open the back cover of the enclosure.
  2. Insert the SSD: Carefully insert your M.2 2280 NVMe SSD (M-Key or B+M-Key) into the M.2 slot. Ensure it is fully seated.
  3. Fix the SSD: Secure the SSD with the provided screw.
  4. Apply Thermal Pads: Paste the silicone thermal pads onto the SSD. This helps in efficient heat transfer to the aluminum case.
  5. Close the Cover: Put the back cover back on and lock the case screws.

SSD Compatibility:

This enclosure exclusively supports M-Key and B+M-Key NVMe SSDs of size 2280. It does not support SATA drives or other M.2 SSD sizes (e.g., 2230, 2242, 2260).

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Connect to Host Device: Plug the Thunderbolt 4/3 cable into the Type-C port of the enclosure and connect the other end to a compatible port on your computer (Thunderbolt 4/3, USB 4.0, USB 3.2, USB 3.1, USB 3.0, or USB 2.0).
  2. Plug-and-Play: The enclosure is plug-and-play and generally does not require any driver installation. Your operating system should automatically detect the connected SSD.
  3. Data Transfer: Once recognized, you can access the SSD like any other external drive for data storage and transfer.

Speed and Compatibility:

The enclosure supports various transmission protocols with adaptive speeds:

  • Thunderbolt 4/3 / USB 4: Up to 40Gbps (Theoretical max read: 3200MB/s, write: 2700MB/s due to protocol conversion losses).
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: Up to 20Gbps.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 (USB 3.1 10G): Up to 10Gbps.
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.0): Up to 5Gbps.
  • USB 2.0: Backward compatible.

PWM Turbo Fan Operation (TB-2464 Fan model only):

The PWM temperature-controlled silent fan in the TB-2464 Fan model operates automatically:

  • The fan starts briefly when powered on, then stops.
  • It will only run again when the SSD temperature exceeds 40°C.
  • Between 45°C and 55°C, the fan light is blue, and its speed increases with temperature.
  • When the temperature rises further, the light turns red, and the fan runs at full speed for maximum cooling.

6. Maintenance

Heat Dissipation:

The full aluminum alloy case, combined with thermal compound pads, provides excellent heat dissipation. For the TB-2464 Fan model, the built-in PWM turbo fan further enhances cooling, ensuring optimal SSD performance and longevity.

Durability:

The enclosure is constructed with robust aluminum alloy using CNC machining technology, designed to withstand drops of up to 2 meters, ensuring the safety and reliability of your data.

  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.

7. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • Compatibility issues with some MAC devices: If you experience compatibility problems with a Mac, download the latest firmware from the official JEYI website (JEYI.COM) and upgrade it using a Windows computer. The ASM2464 chip is optimized for JHL8XXX Thunderbolt chips. If the issue persists after a firmware update, please check the JEYI website for newer firmware versions.
  • Windows 11 does not detect the drive:
    • Ensure the enclosure is securely connected to your computer.
    • Check if the SSD is properly installed inside the enclosure.
    • Verify that the SSD is initialized and formatted in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac).
    • Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB/Thunderbolt port or another computer to rule out port-specific issues.
  • Fan not running (TB-2464 Fan model): The fan is temperature-controlled. It will only activate when the SSD temperature exceeds 40°C. A brief spin upon power-on is normal, after which it will stop until the temperature threshold is met.
  • Slow transfer speeds: Ensure you are using a compatible Thunderbolt 4/3 or USB 4.0 port and cable to achieve maximum speeds. Older USB ports will result in lower speeds due to backward compatibility.

8. User Tips

  • Maximize Write Speed: To potentially increase write speeds, consider enabling write caching in your operating system's device manager settings for the external drive.
  • Optimal Performance: For the best performance, always connect the enclosure to a Thunderbolt 4/3 or USB 4.0 port on your host device.
  • Data Organization: Utilize the included DIY labels to categorize and organize your data for different usage scenarios (e.g., 'Work', 'Film', 'Game', 'Backup').
