Push the socket firmly onto the square drive anvil until it locks into place. To remove, pull the socket off while pressing the release button (if present on your socket type).
4. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your impact wrench.
- Power On/Off: The tool is activated by pressing the trigger switch. Release the trigger to turn off the tool.
- Direction of Rotation (Forward/Reverse): Use the forward/reverse selector switch, typically located above the trigger, to choose the desired direction. Push the switch to the left for forward (tightening) and to the right for reverse (loosening).
-
Torque/Speed Adjustment: The WU279 features an adjustment button to switch between high and low torque/speed settings. This allows you to match the power output to the task at hand.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your WORX WU279 Impact Wrench.
- Cleaning: Keep the tool's ventilation openings clean and free from debris to prevent overheating. Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Brushless Motor: The brushless motor design reduces wear and tear, requiring less maintenance compared to brushed motors. No carbon brush replacement is needed.
- Storage: Store the tool in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. If storing for extended periods, remove the battery pack.
- Battery Care: Even though batteries are not included, if you own WORX 20V batteries, ensure they are stored in a cool, dry place and charged periodically if not in use for long durations to maintain their health.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your impact wrench, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
-
Tool does not start:
- Ensure the battery pack is fully charged and correctly inserted.
- Check if the forward/reverse selector is in the neutral (locked) position.
-
Reduced power or performance:
- The battery charge may be low. Recharge the battery.
- Ensure you are using a compatible WORX 20V KROSS PACK battery. Incompatible batteries may lead to suboptimal performance or damage.
- The selected torque setting might be too low for the task. Adjust to a higher torque setting if needed.
-
Overheating:
- Allow the tool to cool down.
- Ensure ventilation slots are clear of obstructions.
- Avoid continuous heavy-duty use without breaks.
7. User Tips
- Socket Selection: Always use impact-rated sockets with your impact wrench. Standard sockets are not designed to withstand the high impact forces and may shatter.
- Battery Compatibility: Double-check that any battery and charger you intend to use are explicitly compatible with the WORX 20V KROSS PACK system to avoid damage to the tool or battery.
- Safety First: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, when operating the impact wrench.
- Optimal Torque: Start with a lower torque setting for sensitive applications and increase as needed to prevent overtightening or damaging fasteners.
