1. Introduction
The ATOMSTACK Maker AE85 is an extension kit designed to significantly expand the engraving area of compatible ATOMSTACK series laser engravers. By replacing the original frame shaft, this kit allows for a large engraving area of 850x800mm, enabling users to undertake larger projects without needing to purchase an entirely new machine. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective assembly, operation, and maintenance of your AE85 extended frame.
2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating laser engraving equipment. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or damage to property.
- Eye Protection: Always wear certified laser safety goggles when the laser is active. Never look directly at the laser beam.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace to dissipate fumes and smoke produced during engraving.
- Fire Safety: Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Never leave the laser engraver unattended during operation. Be aware of flammable materials.
- Material Compatibility: Only engrave materials suitable for laser processing. Avoid materials that produce toxic fumes or are highly reflective.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
- Emergency Stop: Familiarize yourself with the location and operation of the emergency stop button.

4. Setup and Assembly
The AE85 extension kit features an easy, modular all-aluminum design for straightforward installation. This kit is designed to replace the existing frame of your compatible ATOMSTACK laser engraver.

Figure 4.1: Modular Assembly Overview
- Disassemble Original Frame: Carefully disassemble the existing frame of your ATOMSTACK laser engraver according to its original manual. Retain any components not replaced by the AE85 kit.
- Assemble New Frame: Using the provided support beams, Y-axis slide rails, and mounting screws, assemble the new, larger frame. Refer to Figure 4.1 for the general layout.
- Install X-axis Assembly: Mount the X-axis assembly onto the newly assembled frame. Ensure smooth movement along the Y-axis rails.
- Connect Control Box: Attach the control box and connect all necessary wiring, including the synchronous belt and wire ties, ensuring they are properly routed and secured. Use the appropriate 5PIN to 3PIN or 5PIN to 4PIN adapter cable if your laser module requires it.
- Install Laser Module: Mount your compatible ATOMSTACK laser module onto the laser slider.
- Final Checks: Double-check all connections and ensure the frame is stable and level.
The frame is constructed from original full aluminum profiles, ensuring stable structural design and high precision. The Z-axis rotary focus mechanism provides faster and more accurate focusing.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your AE85 extended frame and laser engraver.
- Cleaning Rails: Periodically clean the Y-axis slide rails and X-axis assembly to remove dust and debris that can impede smooth movement. Use a soft, dry cloth.
- Belt Tension: Check the tension of the synchronous belt. It should be taut but not overly tight. Adjust if necessary according to your main engraver's manual.
- Screw Tightness: Periodically inspect all mounting screws and connections to ensure they remain tight. Vibrations during operation can sometimes loosen fasteners.
- Laser Module Maintenance: Refer to your specific laser module's manual for cleaning and maintenance instructions.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your AE85 extended frame, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Movement Issues: If the X or Y axis is not moving smoothly, check for obstructions on the rails, ensure the synchronous belt is properly tensioned, and verify that all connections are secure.
- Engraving Inaccuracies: Ensure the frame is level and stable. Check that all screws are tightened. Verify the Z-axis focus is correctly set for your material.
- Connectivity Problems: Double-check all cable connections between the control box, laser module, and your main engraver unit. Ensure the correct adapter cable (5PIN to 3PIN or 5PIN to 4PIN) is used for your laser module.
- Software Recognition: If your software does not recognize the expanded area, ensure your engraver's firmware and software are updated to the latest versions that support large work areas.
For persistent issues, consult the original manual of your ATOMSTACK laser engraver or contact ATOMSTACK customer support.
