Introduction

The SmallRig 3902 Wireless Remote Controller is designed to provide convenient wireless control over your camera's shutter and recording functions. This device allows you to trigger your camera from a distance, minimizing camera shake and enhancing shooting flexibility. It supports both still photography and video recording modes and is compatible with a range of Sony, Canon, and Nikon cameras.

Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the remote controller.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the two CR2032 batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Mounting the Remote Controller

The remote controller offers versatile mounting options:

  • Cold Shoe Mount: The remote comes with a detachable cold shoe clamp at the bottom. This allows for quick attachment to any standard cold shoe mount on your camera rig or accessories.
  • 1/4''-20 Threaded Hole: For alternative mounting, remove the cold shoe clamp. The remote can then be secured to accessories such as side handles (e.g., SmallRig Side Handle 3260) or top handles (e.g., SmallRig Top Handle 2165C) using the included 1/4''-20 screw and Allen wrench. The silicone bottom helps prevent deflection, and the screw features an anti-lost design.

Pairing with Camera

To establish a wireless connection:

  1. Ensure your camera's Bluetooth function is enabled and in pairing mode. Refer to your camera's manual for specific instructions on Bluetooth pairing.
  2. Turn on the SmallRig 3902 remote controller using the Power Switch.
  3. The remote controller will automatically attempt to connect to your camera. Once paired, it will automatically reconnect to your device in the future, saving time.
  4. The Bluetooth connection operates reliably within a radius of 10 meters.

Controls Overview

  • Mode Switch: Toggle between STILL (photography) and MOVIE (video recording) modes.
  • Shutter / Recording Button: The primary control button for capturing images or starting/stopping video.
  • Power Switch: Turns the remote controller on or off.
  • Status Indicator: Provides visual feedback on the remote's status (e.g., pairing, connected, low battery).

Using the Remote Controller

  1. Select Mode: Use the Mode Switch to select either STILL for photography or MOVIE for video recording.
  2. Photography (STILL Mode):
    • Press the Shutter / Recording Button halfway down for automatic focus.
    • Press the Shutter / Recording Button all the way down to take a picture.
  3. Video Recording (MOVIE Mode):
    • Press the Shutter / Recording Button fully to start recording.
    • Press the Shutter / Recording Button fully again to stop recording.

Maintenance

  • Keep the remote controller clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • If the remote controller will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Replace batteries promptly when the status indicator shows low power.

Troubleshooting

  • Remote not connecting: Ensure the remote is powered on and within the 10-meter range. Check if your camera's Bluetooth is enabled and in pairing mode. Try re-pairing the remote with your camera.
  • Buttons not responding: Check the battery level. Replace the CR2032 batteries if they are low or depleted. Ensure the mode switch is set correctly for your intended function (STILL or MOVIE).
  • Intermittent connection: Move closer to the camera. Ensure there are no significant obstructions between the remote and the camera. Avoid environments with strong electromagnetic interference.
