5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Physical Installation

  1. Prepare your PC: Power off your computer and unplug it from the power source. Open your PC case.
  2. Identify mounting locations: Determine where you want to install the fans (e.g., front, top, rear of the case, or on a radiator).
  3. Mount the fans: Secure each Aigo AM12 fan to the desired location using the provided mounting screws. Ensure the airflow direction is correct for your cooling needs (typically intake at the front/bottom, exhaust at the rear/top). The fans are equipped with anti-vibration mats to reduce noise.

5.2 Wiring the Control Box

The Aigo AM12 fans use a dedicated control box for power and ARGB synchronization. Refer to the diagram below for proper connections:

  1. Power Connection: Connect the SATA power cable from your PSU to the 'POWER IN' SATA port on the control box.
  2. Fan Connections: Connect each 6-pin fan cable to the 'FAN1' through 'FAN10' ports on the control box. It is recommended to connect them in sequence from FAN1 to FAN10.
  3. Motherboard Sync (Optional): If you wish to synchronize the fan lighting with your motherboard's ARGB software, connect the provided 5V 3-pin ARGB cable from the 'M/B SYNC' port on the control box to your motherboard's 5V 3-pin ARGB header. Note: Ensure your motherboard has a 5V 3-pin ARGB header. Do NOT connect to a 12V 4-pin RGB header, as this can damage the LEDs.
  4. Reset Button Connection (Optional): To control the lighting via your PC case's reset button, connect the case's reset cable to the 'RESET' port on the control box.
  5. LED Strip Connections (Optional): If you have compatible LED strips, connect them to the 'LED1' or 'LED2' ports on the control box.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Remote Control Usage

The included remote control allows you to manage the fan lighting and speed. Ensure the control box is powered on.

Aigo AM12 Remote Control Functions

Image: Remote control layout with button functions.

  • On/Off: The 'On' key is responsible for switching lights on, while the 'Off' key switches them off. Fan operation is independent of light control.
  • RC/MB Switch: Use this button to switch between remote control mode and motherboard synchronization mode.
  • Luminosity Adjustment: Use the luminosity adjustment keys to increase or decrease the brightness of the RGB lighting.
  • Speed Adjustment (SPEED+/SPEED-): These keys adjust the speed of the fan's lighting effects.
  • Mode Adjustment (MODE+/MODE-): These keys cycle through different lighting modes and effects.
  • AUTO: When 'AUTO' is selected, all pre-programmed lighting patterns are executed sequentially, with each pattern displaying for approximately 5 seconds.
  • Seven Color Monochromatic Shortcut Keys: Dedicated buttons for quick selection of single-color lighting.

6.2 Motherboard Synchronization (M/B SYNC)

If you have connected the 'M/B SYNC' cable to a compatible 5V 3-pin ARGB header on your motherboard, you can control the fan lighting through your motherboard's RGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync). Switch the control box to M/B Sync mode using the remote or the physical switch on the controller if available.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan blades and housing to prevent dust buildup, which can reduce cooling efficiency and increase noise. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
  • Inspection: Regularly check fan cables for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Avoid Liquids: Do not expose the fans or controller to liquids.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Common Issues and Solutions

Fans not spinning or lighting up:
  • Ensure the SATA power cable is securely connected to both the control box and the PSU.
  • Verify that each 6-pin fan cable is properly seated in the control box.
  • Check if the control box is receiving power from the PSU.
  • If using motherboard sync, ensure the 5V 3-pin ARGB cable is correctly connected and the motherboard software is configured.
RGB lighting not working or incorrect colors:
  • Confirm the 5V 3-pin ARGB cable is connected to the correct header on the motherboard (5V, not 12V).
  • Switch between remote control mode and motherboard sync mode using the remote to see if the issue persists.
  • Check the remote control battery.
  • Ensure the motherboard's ARGB software is up-to-date and correctly configured for the fans.
Fans are noisy:
  • Ensure all mounting screws are tightened to prevent vibrations.
  • Check for any cables or obstructions hitting the fan blades.
  • Clean any dust buildup on the fan blades.
  • Verify that the anti-vibration mats are properly installed.
Remote control not responding:
  • Check and replace the remote control battery.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the control box.

9. User Tips

  • Daisy-chaining: Some users inquire about connecting fans to each other. The AM12 fans connect individually to the control box via 6-pin cables.
  • Controller Voltage: The controller is designed for 5V ARGB synchronization with the motherboard, despite some product descriptions mentioning 12V. Always use the 5V 3-pin ARGB header for motherboard sync.
  • Kit Contents: Always verify the specific kit you purchased to confirm if it includes a controller. Most multi-fan kits come with one.
  • Noise Level: The fans are rated at 21dBA, which is generally considered quiet. If you experience excessive noise, refer to the troubleshooting section.

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information and technical support, please refer to the official Aigo website or contact your retailer. Keep your proof of purchase for any warranty claims.
