Figure 2: Energy Meter and CT Clamp Dimensions

The main module measures approximately 46mm x 46mm x 18mm. The mounting bracket is 37mm x 38mm. CT clamp dimensions vary by amperage (e.g., 80A: 26mm L, 23mm W, 40mm H; 300A: 35mm L, 46mm W, 65.4mm H).

2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Components

  • Energy Meter Module (PC311-Z-TY)
  • Current Transformer (CT) Clamps (single or double, depending on model)
  • (Optional for Zigbee versions) G06 Wireless Hub

2.2 Wiring Instructions

WARNING: Installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician. Ensure power is disconnected before beginning any wiring.

  1. Connect AC Input: Connect the AC input line to the socket near the distribution box to power the meter. The meter requires 90-250V AC, 50/60Hz.
  2. Connect CT Clamps:
    • Open the CT clamp and locate the arrow (P1→P2 or K→L) on the inside or on a sticker outside the clamp. This arrow indicates the direction of the current. The CT supports bidirectional sensing.
    • For Energy Generation Measurement (e.g., Solar Inverter): Clip the CT onto the cable with the arrow facing towards the inverter (similar to CT2 in the diagram below). If the measured current direction is opposite to the CT's direction, the power will be negative, and energy generation will be accumulated.
    • For 'From Grid' or 'To Grid' Measurement: To monitor energy pulled from or sent back to the grid, install the CT on the leads coming from your main electrical panel. For CT1, if the measured current direction is K→L, energy consumption is 'From Grid' energy. If L→K, it's 'To Grid' energy.
  3. Ensure Correct CT Direction: Always ensure the direction of the CT clamp is correct for your specific measurement scenario.

2.3 App Pairing (Tuya Smart / Smart Life)

The device supports both WiFi and Zigbee connectivity. For Zigbee versions, a compatible Zigbee gateway (e.g., G06 Wireless Hub) is required.

  1. Download the App: Download and install the 'Tuya Smart' or 'Smart Life' app from your mobile app store.
  2. Register/Log In: Create an account or log in to your existing account.
  3. Add Device:
    • Ensure your energy meter is powered on and in pairing mode (LED indicator blinking).
    • In the app, tap '+' to add a new device.
    • The app may auto-discover the device. If not, select 'Electrical' -> 'Socket (Wi-Fi)' or 'Socket (Zigbee)' depending on your device version and network type.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the device to your Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz only) or Zigbee network. You will need to enter your Wi-Fi password.
    • Once successfully added, the device will appear in your app's device list.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the energy meter is successfully connected to the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, you can monitor your electricity usage and generation.

3.1 Real-time Monitoring

The app provides real-time data for:

  • Total Active Power (kW)
  • Total Current (A)
  • Voltage (V)
  • Frequency (Hz)
  • Current for each circuit (A)
  • Active Power for each circuit (kW)
  • Power Factor for each circuit

3.2 Historical Data and Usage Analysis

The app allows you to view historical electricity data, including:

  • Hourly Electricity (KWh)
  • Daily Electricity (KWh)
  • Monthly Electricity (KWh)
  • Yearly Electricity (KWh)
  • Total Electricity (KWh)

You can view detailed graphs and summaries for each circuit, showing forward and reverse energy (generation) over time.

5. Maintenance

The energy meter is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Keep the device and CT clamps clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself. Refer to qualified personnel for any service needs.
  • Regularly check wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Device Not Connecting to App

  • Check Power: Ensure the energy meter is properly powered and its LED indicator is active.
  • Wi-Fi/Zigbee Network: Verify your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz (5GHz is not supported). For Zigbee versions, ensure your Zigbee gateway is powered on and connected to the internet.
  • Pairing Mode: Make sure the device is in pairing mode (LED blinking). If not, refer to the device's reset procedure (usually a long press on the reset button).
  • App Permissions: Ensure the Tuya Smart/Smart Life app has necessary permissions (e.g., location, local network access) on your smartphone.
  • Router Distance: Move the device closer to your Wi-Fi router or Zigbee gateway to improve signal strength.

6.2 Incorrect Readings or No Data

  • CT Clamp Direction: Double-check that the CT clamps are installed with the correct direction arrow (P1→P2 or K→L) relative to the current flow. Incorrect direction will result in negative or inaccurate readings.
  • CT Clamp Connection: Ensure the CT clamps are securely connected to the meter module's input terminals.
  • Wiring: Verify that the main power wiring to the meter module is correct and secure.
  • App Refresh: Try refreshing the app or restarting it to update data.

7. User Tips

  • Monitor Key Appliances: Use the meter to identify which appliances consume the most energy by clamping the CTs around their individual circuit wires in your electrical panel.
  • Track Solar Generation: If you have solar panels, use the two-way measurement feature to accurately track how much energy your system generates and feeds back into the grid.
  • Set Up Automations: Leverage the Tuya Smart/Smart Life app to create smart automations based on energy consumption, such as turning off high-power devices when a certain threshold is reached.
  • Regular Data Review: Periodically review your hourly, daily, and monthly energy reports to understand consumption patterns and identify opportunities for energy saving.

8. Warranty and Support
