4.4. Add the ZigBee Meter to App

Please note: ZigBee meters need to be connected to a Tuya Gateway to function properly.

  1. Ensure your Tuya Gateway is set up and online in the app.
  2. Press the reset button on the ZigBee meter for about 5 seconds until the red light flashes quickly.
  3. In the app, navigate to your Wireless Zigbee Gateway and select 'Add subdevice'.
  4. The app will search for and add the ZigBee meter. Once added, click 'DONE'.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Monitoring Electricity Usage

Once the device is added, you can monitor various electricity parameters through the app:

  • Real-time Data: View total power, power for Channel A and B separately (W), current (mA), voltage (V), power factor, and frequency (Hz).
  • Electricity Statistics: Access hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly electricity consumption (KWh) for each channel in both forward and reverse directions.

5.2. Calibration

The energy meter allows for calibration to ensure accuracy. You can adjust the calibration percentage within the app.

5.3. Automation (Scene Creation)

The device supports automation, allowing it to work with other Tuya-compatible devices. You can create scenes based on measured electricity values.

For example, if power or current exceeds a set value, another Tuya device can be triggered to start working, or a notification can be sent.

5.4. Correct Clamp Direction for Solar Systems

When monitoring solar systems, the direction of the current clamp is critical for accurate 'Forward' and 'Reverse' energy readings.

  • If your solar system is actively generating power, adjust the clamp's direction until the app shows 'Reverse' energy.
  • If your solar system is not working (e.g., at night or off), adjust the clamp's direction until the app shows 'Forward' energy.

Perform this adjustment for each channel.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Clearing App Electricity Data

To clear the electricity data stored in the app for your device:

  1. Quickly press the reset button on the meter 5 times. The indicator LED should blink quickly. If it doesn't, repeat the action until it blinks quickly.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Go to the device's page in the Smart Life/Tuya Smart app.
  4. Click on 'Disconnect and wipe data'.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Common Issues and Solutions

Q: After I configure it with the App, why does the App show '0' for Current and Power?
A: This occurs if no current is detected. Ensure you have placed a device's wire (either live wire or neutral wire, but not both) inside the clamp, and that the device is turned ON. The clamp needs to sense current to display values.
Q: I suppose P=U*I, why is the value shown on the App not correct?
A: The calculation for real power (P) also considers the power factor (cos(Φ)). The formula is P = V * I * cos(Φ). Resistances do not produce a phase difference between voltage and current, so useful power is delivered directly. For accurate real power, the RMS voltage and current values are multiplied by the cosine of the phase angle.
Q: After I change the report rate to less than 10 seconds, why does my App seem stuck?
A: This is likely due to a slow network return. Please sign out of the App and re-enter. Then, change the report rate back to 10 seconds. This should resolve the issue.

8. User Tips

  • For solar power users, remember to correctly orient the current clamps to differentiate between energy consumed from the grid ('Forward') and energy produced and fed back into the grid ('Reverse').
  • If you experience issues with data reporting, try adjusting the reporting frequency in the app settings. A 10-second interval is generally stable.
  • Consider using the automation features to create smart scenes, such as triggering an alert if power consumption exceeds a certain threshold, which can be useful for energy saving or safety.
  • Always double-check your wiring connections and ensure the power is off before making any changes to prevent electrical hazards.
