1. Introduction

The Zemismart SPM02 3-Phase Smart Energy Meter is designed for accurate monitoring of key electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power consumption. It supports both Zigbee and WiFi communication methods, allowing integration with smart home platforms like Tuya Smart Life app and Home Assistant (Zigbee version only). This manual provides detailed instructions for safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your energy meter.

2. Safety Information

Please Note

  • SPM02 sensors must only be installed and maintained by qualified professionals.
  • SPM02 sensors should not be installed if, while unpacking, any damage is observed.
  • SPM02 sensors must be installed inside electrical panels or switchboards, behind a door or plate, so that they are inaccessible to unauthorized persons.
  • The electrical panels must meet the requirements of the applicable standards (IEC 61439-1 and be installed in compliance with current installation and safety rules (IEC 61140).
  • All relevant local, regional, and national regulations must be respected while installing and using SPM02 sensors.
  • SPM02 sensors' manufacturer is not liable in case the instructions mentioned in this document and other other referred documents are not respected.

Hazard of Electric Shock, Explosion or Arc Flash

  • Turn off all power supply sources before installing and during maintenance of this equipment.
  • Do not use an SPM02 sensor for voltage testing purposes. A Voltage Tester must be used instead.

Warning: Failure to follow the instructions on this page will result in death or serious injury.

Risk of Damaging SPM02 Sensors

  • Comply with the neutral phase. (Brown/Red=X, Black/Green=Y, Grey/Yellow=Z, Blue=Neutral)
  • Disconnect SPM02 sensors before performing the dielectric withstand test.
  • SPM02 sensors can only be installed upstream if associated with a contactor, variable frequency drive or motor starter.
  • Limit the insulation measurements up to 500 VDC.

3. Product Overview

The Zemismart SPM02 is a compact 3-phase smart energy meter designed for DIN rail mounting within electrical power distribution boards. It accurately monitors key electrical figures, sends alarm messages, and can be integrated with other smart devices for automation.

5. Setup Instructions

5.1. Installation

The SPM02 energy meter is designed for quick installation within your electrical distribution board. Always ensure power is OFF before beginning installation.

  1. Turn off Power: For safety reasons, start by disconnecting the upstream power supply. Next, open the distribution board cover and switch off the power.
  2. Disconnect Live Wires: Disconnect the live wires connected to the circuit breaker.
  3. Find the Right Direction: Make sure the current's direction matches the direction of the arrow printed on the SPM cover.
  4. Pass the Wires: Let the live wires pass through the holes of the SPM02 meter.
    • Brown/Red cable for Line X voltage measurement and Through-hole X for Line X current measurement.
    • Black/Green cable for Line Y voltage measurement and Through-hole Y for Line Y current measurement.
    • Grey/Yellow cable for Line Z voltage measurement and Through-hole Z for Line Z current measurement.
    • Blue cable for neutral connection.
  5. Reconnect the Live Wires: Reconnect the live wires to the circuit breaker. The terminals of the voltage measuring cables must be adjusted according to the equipment for monitoring. It is the responsibility of qualified professionals to provide such cable terminals.
  6. Reconnect the Neutral Wire: Reconnect the neutral wire to the bus bar.
  7. Connect the Power: Reconnect the power back on.

5.2. Pairing with Cloud (Tuya Smart Life App)

The SPM02 meter can be paired with the Tuya Smart Life app for remote monitoring and control. The pairing process differs slightly between Zigbee and WiFi versions.

5.2.1. Enter Reset Mode

Press and hold the reset button on the SPM02 meter until the indicator light flashes quickly. This indicates the device is in pairing mode.

5.2.2. Zigbee Version Pairing

  1. Ensure you have a Tuya Zigbee Hub connected to your network and the Smart Life app.
  2. In the Smart Life app, navigate to your Zigbee Hub.
  3. Tap 'Add subdevice' or 'Add Device'.
  4. Confirm the device LED is blinking and tap 'LED already blink'.
  5. The app will discover the SPM02_3PN_Zigbee device.
  6. Once added, tap 'Done' to complete the pairing.

5.2.3. WiFi Version Pairing

  1. Ensure your smartphone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.
  2. Open the Smart Life app and tap '+' to add a new device.
  3. Select 'Electrical' and then 'Socket (Wi-Fi)' or search for 'SPM02_WIFI'.
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi network name and password.
  5. Confirm the device LED is blinking and proceed with pairing.
  6. The app will discover and add the SPM02_WIFI device.
  7. Once added, tap 'Done' to complete the pairing.

6. Operating Instructions

Once your Zemismart SPM02 energy meter is installed and paired with the Tuya Smart Life app, you can begin monitoring and managing your energy consumption.

6.1. App Control and Data Monitoring

The Tuya Smart Life app provides a comprehensive interface to view real-time and historical energy data.

6.1.1. Viewing More Data

To view detailed data for each phase (Voltage X, Current X, Active Power X, Power Factor X, Forward Energy X, Reverse Energy X, and similar for Y and Z phases):

  1. Click on the 'Setting' icon in the lower right corner of the main monitoring screen.
  2. Select 'More Data'.

6.1.2. Electricity Consumption Statistics / Power Statistics

To view detailed historical energy data:

  1. Click on 'Electricity Consumption Statistics' (Zigbee) or 'Power Statistics' (WiFi) in the lower left corner of the main monitoring screen.
  2. This will display detailed data by Day, Month, or Year.

6.2. Energy Management

You can clear existing energy data from the device settings page.

  1. On the device settings page, click 'Energy management'.
  2. Select 'Clear energy' or 'ZERO ENERGY'.
  3. Confirm your action when prompted.

6.3. Alarm Messages

The app can send reminder messages when power consumption is abnormal. You can configure various alarm types.

6.3.1. Data Report Duration

The data report duration can be modified in the app settings.

  1. Click 'Setting' in the lower right corner of the main screen.
  2. Click on 'Alarm set'.
  3. Click on 'Data Report Duration'.
  4. Adjust the 'threshold settings' as needed.

Note: The default data reporting time for the Zigbee version is 600 seconds, and for the WiFi version is 300 seconds.

6.4. Bi-directional Measurement (Zigbee Version with Home Assistant)

The Zigbee version of the SPM02 meter supports bi-directional measurement of power and energy flow, which is particularly useful for monitoring solar energy production and consumption. This feature is primarily accessible via Home Assistant through Zigbee2MQTT.

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly check the physical connections of the meter to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.
  • If the device is not functioning correctly, refer to the troubleshooting section or contact support. Do not attempt to repair the device yourself unless you are a qualified professional.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device not pairing: Ensure the device is in reset/pairing mode (indicator light flashing quickly). Check your Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz only for WiFi version) or Zigbee hub connection.
  • No data in app: Verify the wiring connections are correct and secure. Ensure the device is powered on and successfully paired with the app/hub.
  • Inaccurate readings: Double-check that the current direction matches the arrow on the meter. Ensure all phase wires are correctly passed through their respective through-holes.
  • App connection issues: Restart your router, Zigbee hub (if applicable), and the SPM02 meter. Ensure your smartphone has a stable internet connection.
  • Unbalanced-load alarm: This indicates a potential issue in your electrical system. Consult a qualified electrician to inspect your electrical box and prevent short circuits.

9. User Tips

  • For optimal performance and data accuracy, ensure the meter is installed by a qualified professional.
  • Regularly check the app for alarm messages to proactively address potential electrical issues.
  • If using the Zigbee version with Home Assistant, leverage the bi-directional measurement feature to gain deeper insights into your energy production and consumption, especially for solar setups.
  • Familiarize yourself with the app's 'More Data' and 'Statistics' sections to understand your energy usage patterns over time.
