2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions when using the fiber optic cleaver:

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, to protect against fiber shards.
  • Handle optical fibers with extreme care. Fiber shards are very sharp and can cause serious injury.
  • Dispose of all fiber scraps properly in a designated fiber waste container.
  • Keep the cleaver clean and free from dust and debris to ensure optimal performance and prevent damage to fibers.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the cleaver beyond the maintenance procedures described in this manual.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

4. Product Overview

The AUA-6C cleaver features a robust design for consistent and high-quality fiber cuts.

  • High Precision: Engineered for accurate angle cutting, resulting in a flat cutting surface and low optical loss.
  • Versatile Fixture: Equipped with a 'Three in one fixture' that accommodates various fiber types including bare fiber, tail fiber, leather wire, and standard fiber optic cables.
  • Built-in Scale: Features an integrated scale for precise length measurement, eliminating the need for an external length gauge.
  • Durable Blade: Utilizes a tungsten steel blade with 16 cutting end faces, ensuring a long service life.
  • Automatic Return: Designed with a high-quality slide rail and mechanical cover that automatically returns to its open position after each cut, streamlining the cleaving process.

5. Setup and Fiber Preparation

Before cleaving, ensure the fiber is properly stripped and cleaned.

  1. Open the Cleaver: Lift the top cover of the cleaver. The automatic return mechanism will hold it open.
  2. Prepare the Fiber: Strip the fiber to the required length, exposing the bare fiber. Clean the bare fiber thoroughly with an alcohol wipe to remove any coating residue or contaminants.
  3. Position the Fiber: Place the prepared fiber into the appropriate slot in the 'Three in one fixture' according to its type and diameter. Use the built-in scale to set the desired cleave length.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to perform a precise fiber cleave:

  1. Secure the Fiber: Once the fiber is correctly positioned in the fixture and the desired length is set, gently close the fiber clamp to hold the fiber securely in place.
  2. Close the Cover: Carefully lower the top cover of the cleaver. As the cover closes, the blade will engage and perform the cleave.
  3. Remove Cleaved Fiber: After the cleave is complete, the cover will automatically return to its open position. Carefully remove the cleaved fiber, ensuring not to touch the cleaved end.
  4. Dispose of Scraps: Collect the fiber scrap from the cleaver's waste bin and dispose of it in a safe, designated container.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your cleaver:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the fiber clamping areas and the blade path with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol to remove any fiber debris or dust.
  • Blade Rotation: The tungsten steel blade has 16 cutting positions. When the cleaving quality degrades, use the adjustable wrench to rotate the blade to a new, unused position. Refer to the markings on the blade for guidance.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the cleaver in its anti-falling bag and packing box to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Poor cleave quality (angled, rough, or chipped end)
  • Dirty fiber or cleaver components
  • Worn or damaged blade position
  • Improper fiber placement
  • Clean fiber and cleaver thoroughly.
  • Rotate blade to a new position.
  • Ensure fiber is correctly seated in the fixture.
Fiber not cutting completely
  • Blade position is worn
  • Insufficient pressure during cleave
  • Rotate blade to a new position.
  • Ensure the cleaver cover is fully closed.
Fiber slips during cleave
  • Fiber clamp not properly secured
  • Dirty fiber clamp
  • Ensure fiber clamp is fully closed.
  • Clean the fiber clamp surfaces.
