2. Safety Information

  • Do not look directly into the optical output port of the KLS-25M Light Source when it is active. Laser radiation can cause serious eye injury.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Open the battery cover.
  3. Insert two AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover securely.

4.2 Connecting Fiber Optic Cables

Both the KLS-25M and KPM-25M feature a 2.5mm universal interface, supporting SC, FC, and ST connectors. LC connectors are optional and may require an adapter.

  1. Remove the dust cap from the device's optical port.
  2. Clean the fiber optic connector end-face thoroughly using appropriate cleaning tools.
  3. Insert the cleaned fiber optic connector into the device's port until it clicks into place.
  4. Ensure a secure connection for accurate measurements.

5. Operation

5.1 KLS-25M Optical Light Source Operation

  1. Power On/Off: Press the Power button (Power button icon) to turn the device on or off.
  2. Wavelength Selection: Press the Lambda button (Lambda button icon) to cycle through available wavelengths (e.g., 1310nm, 1550nm). The selected wavelength will be displayed on the LCD.
  3. Frequency Selection (CW/HZ): Press the CW/HZ button to switch between Continuous Wave (CW) mode and modulated frequencies (e.g., 270Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz).
  4. Backlight: Press the Light button (Light button icon) to toggle the display backlight.

5.2 KPM-25M Optical Power Meter Operation

  1. Power On/Off: Press the Power button (Power button icon) to turn the device on or off.
  2. Wavelength Selection: Press the Lambda button (Lambda button icon) to cycle through the calibrated wavelengths (850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 nm). Ensure the selected wavelength matches the light source for accurate measurements.
  3. Reference Setting (REF/dB): Press the REF/dB button to set the current power reading as a reference (0 dB) for relative measurements. Press again to switch between absolute (dBm or µW) and relative (dB) measurements.
  4. Backlight: Press the Light button (Light button icon) to toggle the display backlight.

5.3 Auto Wave ID Function (KLS-25M with KPM-25M)

When the KLS-25M Light Source is set to output a specific wavelength and connected to a KPM-25M Power Meter (specifically KPM-25u model for full functionality), the KPM-25M can automatically detect and display the incoming wavelength, simplifying testing procedures.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning Optical Ports: Regularly clean the optical ports of both devices and the fiber connector end-faces. Use lint-free wipes and optical cleaning solutions or specialized fiber optic cleaning tools. Contaminated connectors are a primary cause of inaccurate measurements.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD. Always use fresh AAA alkaline batteries.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the devices in their protective cases with dust caps on all optical ports. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Protective Case: Keep the silicone protective cases on the devices during use to guard against minor impacts and wear.
