Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the DeepSDR 101 and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Attach Antenna: Screw the BNC 7-section whip antenna onto the BNC connector located on the top right side of the device. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  3. Charging: Connect the provided USB Type-C cable to the charging port on the device and plug the other end into a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port. The device features a 5000mAh/3.7V (18.5Wh) Lithium battery. Allow sufficient time for a full charge before first use.
  4. Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually located on the side or top) until the screen illuminates.
  5. Stylus Use: The DeepSDR 101 features a resistive touchscreen. Use the provided double-head touch pen for precise interaction with the display, especially for fine tuning or menu navigation.

Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds to turn the device on or off.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the rotary encoder knob on the right side of the device to control the audio output volume.
  • Frequency Tuning: Rotate the encoder knob to change the receiving frequency. The minimum step is 1 Hz, allowing for very precise tuning.
  • Mode Selection: The DeepSDR 101 supports CW, AM, LSB, USB, and WFM demodulation modes. Navigate through the on-screen menu using the touchscreen or encoder to select your desired mode.

Display Interpretation

The 4.3-inch IPS LCD provides a detailed visual representation of the radio spectrum:

  • Spectrogram: Shows the real-time signal strength across the selected frequency band. Peaks indicate active signals.
  • Waterfall Display: Provides a historical view of the spectrum, with older data scrolling down. This helps in identifying transient signals or frequency hopping.
  • Frequency Readout: The current tuned frequency is prominently displayed.
  • Signal Strength Indicator: Visual bars or numerical values indicate the strength of the received signal.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the aluminum alloy shell. For the screen, use a microfiber cloth specifically designed for electronics to avoid scratches. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50-70%.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Antenna Care: Handle the whip antenna with care to prevent bending or damage.

Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the USB Type-C cable and try powering on again.
  • No signal reception: Check that the antenna is securely connected. Extend the whip antenna fully. Try moving to a different location to improve reception. Verify the frequency and demodulation mode are correctly set.
  • Poor audio quality: Adjust the volume knob. Check for interference from other electronic devices.
  • Screen unresponsive: Ensure you are using the provided resistive touch pen for interaction. If the issue persists, try restarting the device.
