Nidec 24H Brushless Servo Motor

Japan Nidec 24H Brushless Servo Motor User Manual

Model: 24H Brushless Servo Motor

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Japan Nidec 24H Brushless Servo Motor. This motor features a built-in drive and 100-line dual-channel encoder, making it suitable for high-precision control applications. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation.

2. Safety & Warnings

  • Do not operate the motor under overload (stall) conditions, as this may easily damage the motor.
  • Select a power supply with appropriate voltage (DC).
  • If the load exceeds the rated value, the rotational speed will decrease.
  • Operating near the stall torque limit may cause internal damage.
  • Reducing the rotational speed will result in decreased output torque.
  • It is strictly forbidden to make mistakes regarding the positive and negative connections of the brushless motor.
  • Always use a regulated, non-surge DC power supply (e.g., a battery or regulated power supply).

Choking Hazard Warning

This product may contain small parts. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years to prevent choking hazards.

Wiring Instructions

Refer to the wiring diagram below for proper connections. Ensure all connections are secure before applying power.

Detailed wiring diagram for the Nidec Brushless Servo Motor
Wiring Diagram:
  • Red Wire: Power supply positive
  • Black Wire: Power supply negative
  • Yellow Wire: Start/Stop (Connect to positive power supply via a 1k resistor; below 12V, no resistor needed)
  • White Wire (PWM): PWM signal speed control (Connect to negative for high speed; input 20KHz pulse width signal for speed regulation)
  • Green Wire: Forward-reverse switching (Connect to negative to switch direction)
  • Brown Wires (Signal A, Signal B): Encoder signals
  • Orange Wire: Encoder power supply 5V

Mounting

The motor bracket can be removed if necessary for custom mounting solutions.

6. Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  1. Connect the red wire to the positive pole and the black wire to the negative pole of your DC power supply.
  2. Connect the yellow 'Start' line to the positive power supply via a 1k resistor. If operating below 12V, a resistor is not required.
  3. To run at high speed, connect the white PWM line directly to the negative pole.
  4. For speed regulation, input a 20KHz pulse width modulation (PWM) signal to the white line.
  5. To switch between forward and reverse rotation, connect the green line to the negative pole. It is recommended to stop the motor before switching direction to prevent instantaneous surges.
  6. The encoder requires a 5V power supply connected to the orange wire. If the encoder is not needed, this connection can be ignored.

7. Maintenance

This brushless servo motor is designed for low maintenance. Keep the motor clean and free from dust and debris. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating. No specific user-serviceable parts are inside.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Motor not starting or erratic operation: Check all wiring connections for correctness, especially positive/negative polarity. Ensure the power supply is regulated and within the specified voltage range (9V-24V DC).
  • Motor overheating: Reduce the load on the motor. Ensure it is not operating under stall conditions. Verify that the power supply voltage is correct and not exceeding 24V.
  • Reduced speed or torque: The load might be exceeding the motor's rated value. Reduce the load or ensure the motor is not operating near its stall torque limit.
  • No encoder feedback: Ensure the encoder's 5V power supply (orange wire) is correctly connected.

9. User Tips

  • Cables: This motor is typically sold without connecting cables. You will need to source appropriate wires and connectors for your application.
  • Shaft Dimensions: For precise integration, carefully measure the helical portion of the shaft if specific dimensions are critical for your project. The shaft diameter is 6mm and length is 18.5mm.
  • Condition: As these motors are often used and dismantled, minor cosmetic imperfections like oxidation or rust spots may be present, but they are tested for perfect working order.
