5. Setup & Installation
5.1. Choosing Linear Scale Length (for Complete Kits)
For complete kits including linear scales, it is crucial to specify the desired travel length. The travel length can be customized from 50mm to 1000mm. The total length of the scale will be the travel length plus 138mm.
When ordering, please clearly communicate your required travel length or actual overall length. If not specified, the default will be travel length. Failure to specify may result in non-delivery.
5.2. Physical Installation
Mount the GCS908-3 LCD display unit using the provided mounting bracket and screws. Ensure it is securely fastened in a location that allows for clear visibility and easy access to controls during operation.
Install the linear scales (Model GCS898) on your machine tool (lathe, milling machine, etc.) using the provided mounting brackets and screw bags. Ensure the scales are aligned correctly and the readhead moves smoothly along the scale. The protective housing should be used to shield the scale from dust, oil, water, and iron filings.

5.3. Electrical Connection
Connect the linear scales to the GCS908-3 DRO unit using the provided DB9 plugs. Ensure the connections are secure. Connect the DRO unit to a power source using the appropriate power cable for your region (AU, EU, UK, US plug options are available).

6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Power On and Initial Setup
Turn on the DRO unit. The system will boot up. You may need to enter a system password (default is usually 123456) to access system settings.

7.1. General Care
- Keep the DRO display unit clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Ensure the linear scales are protected by their covers to prevent ingress of dust, oil, water, and iron filings.
- Regularly inspect cables for any signs of wear or damage.
- The linear scale's 304 stainless steel conduit cable is designed for corrosion and oil resistance; however, avoid excessive exposure to harsh chemicals.
7.2. Cleaning
For the LCD display, use a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly dampened cloth with water or a mild screen cleaner can be used, ensuring no liquid enters the unit.
For linear scales, gently wipe the exposed surfaces with a clean, soft cloth. If necessary, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaning solution. Ensure the raster glass is kept clean for accurate readings.
8. Troubleshooting
8.1. Common Issues and Solutions
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| DRO not powering on | No power, faulty cable, power switch off | Check power connection, ensure power switch is on, try a different power outlet. |
| Inaccurate readings from linear scale | Scale misalignment, dirty raster glass, damaged scale/readhead | Check scale alignment, clean raster glass, inspect for physical damage. |
| Display flickering or unstable readings | Electrical interference, loose cable connection, anti-shake setting | Ensure proper grounding, check cable connections, adjust "Anti-shake" setting in system parameters. |
| Cannot change language | Incorrect system password, wrong menu navigation | Ensure correct password is used. Refer to Section 6.2 for language selection steps. |
