3. Package Contents

Upon unpacking, please verify that all items listed below are present and in good condition:

  • 1 x CEM DT-9935 Digital LCR Meter

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  2. Open the cover by sliding or unscrewing it.
  3. Insert four (4) 1.5V "AA" batteries (15A or IE CLR 6 type recommended), ensuring correct polarity as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

  1. Insert the red test lead into the positive ("+") input terminal.
  2. Insert the black test lead into the negative ("-") input terminal.
  3. For guarded measurements, connect the guard leads to the "GUARD" terminals to minimize stray capacitance and improve accuracy.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the red power button (POWER) to turn the meter ON. The meter will perform a self-test and display the default measurement mode.
  • Press and hold the power button to turn the meter OFF.

5.2 Measurement Modes and Functions

Safety Precaution: Always discharge capacitors before testing to prevent damage to the meter and ensure user safety. A warning is printed on the device: "Discharge Capacitor Before Testing".

  • LCR Measurement (Auto): The meter automatically identifies inductance (L), capacitance (C), and resistance (R). Connect the component to the test leads.
  • Function Selection (FUNC): Use the FUNC button to cycle through different measurement parameters such as Cp (parallel capacitance), Cs (series capacitance), Lp (parallel inductance), Ls (series inductance), Rp (parallel resistance), Rs (series resistance), D (dissipation factor), Q (quality factor), and ESR (equivalent series resistance).
  • Frequency Selection (FREQ): Use the FREQ button to select the desired test frequency (e.g., 10 KHz).
  • Series/Parallel Mode (SER/PAL): Use the SER/PAL button to switch between series and parallel equivalent circuit modes for capacitance and inductance measurements, depending on the component and application.
  • Hold Function (HOLD): Press HOLD to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release the hold function.
  • Relative Measurement (REL%): Use the REL% button for relative measurements, allowing you to measure the difference from a stored reference value.
  • Sorting Function (SORTING): Use the SORTING button for component sorting based on predefined criteria.
  • Setup (SETUP): Accesses meter settings.
  • Calibration (CAL): Used for calibration procedures.
  • Enter (ENTER): Confirms selections.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these may damage the casing or display.

6.2 Battery Replacement

Replace the batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate measurements and proper operation.

6.3 Storage

Store the meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. If the meter will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage.

7. Troubleshooting

  • "OL" or "-OL" Display: This indicates an overrange condition. The measured value exceeds the meter's maximum range for the selected function. Check the component or switch to a higher range if applicable.
  • No Display/Power: Check battery installation and ensure the batteries have sufficient charge. Verify that the power button is pressed correctly.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure test leads are properly connected and making good contact with the component. Clean the test leads and terminals if necessary. Perform a calibration if readings remain inconsistent.
