1. Introduction

The DeepVNA-101 is a versatile vector network analyzer designed for measuring S-parameters of circuits. It can perform transmission tests, reflection tests, insertion loss, return loss, fault location (TDR function), antenna standing wave ratio (SWR), impedance, and filter response analysis.

This device features a 4.3-inch IPS LCD screen and comes in a durable metal case, making it suitable for various RF measurement tasks.

4. Features and Improvements

The DeepVNA-101 (HW 3.2) incorporates several enhancements for improved usability and performance:

  • Rotary Encoder: User buttons have been replaced with a rotary encoder for more convenient and smoother control and navigation.
  • RTC Circuit: A new Real-Time Clock (RTC) circuit provides real-time clock and perpetual calendar functions.
  • Optimized S21 Performance: Enhanced S21 insertion loss/filter measurement performance with a larger dynamic range.
  • Firmware Version 1.0.4 New Features:
    • Measurement data file names are now saved in YYMMDD_HHMMSS format.
    • Frequency settings offer both start/end and center span modes.
    • Option to turn the boot sound on or off.
  • PC and Android Compatibility: The device can be controlled using VNA Saver software on a PC or NanoVNA-Web App for Android. It supports exporting Touchstone (.snp) files for use with various radio design and simulation software.
  • Versatile Measurement Applications: Suitable for scanning antenna systems and cables, SWR and impedance matching, measuring dual-band and triple-band duplexers, port isolation by frequency band, and measuring insertion loss of filters.

5. Setup

5.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the DeepVNA-101 using the provided USB-A to USB Type-C cable. Connect the Type-C end to the device's charging port and the USB-A end to a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port. The LED indicator will show charging status.

5.2 Power On/Off

Locate the power switch on the side of the device. Slide it to the 'ON' position to power on. To power off, slide it to the 'OFF' position.

5.3 Screen Protector

A screen protector is included. It is recommended to apply it to the 4.3-inch IPS LCD screen to prevent scratches and ensure longevity of the touch interface.

5.4 Using the Stand

The foldable machine stand can be attached to the back of the device to prop it up for easier viewing during operation.

6. Operation

6.1 Basic Navigation

The DeepVNA-101 features a 4.3-inch IPS LCD touchscreen and a rotary encoder for navigation. Use the touch screen for direct interaction with menus and settings, or use the rotary encoder for precise adjustments and menu scrolling. The resistive screen touch pen can be used for more accurate touch input.

6.2 Setting Brightness, Time, and Calendar

Access the device settings through the main menu to adjust screen brightness, set the current time, and configure the perpetual calendar function. These settings ensure accurate timestamping of your measurements.

6.3 Performing Measurements

The DeepVNA-101 can perform various RF measurements. Connect the device to the circuit or antenna under test using the appropriate SMA cables and calibration pieces. Follow the on-screen menu prompts to select the desired measurement type (e.g., S11, S21, SWR, TDR) and configure parameters like frequency range (start/end or center span mode).

6.4 Saving Data

Measurement data can be saved as Touchstone (.snp) files. The device has 16MB of memory, capable of storing approximately 1000 sets of .snp files. Saved files are named using the YYMMDD_HHMMSS format for easy organization.

6.5 PC and Android Software Control

For advanced analysis and control, connect the DeepVNA-101 to a computer or Android device using the USB Type-C cable. Utilize the VNA Saver software (for PC) or NanoVNA-Web App (for Android) to control the device, view measurements on a larger screen, and export data for further processing.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device's screen and casing. For stubborn smudges on the screen, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth can be used. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

7.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the device frequently. Charge the 5000mAh battery regularly. If storing the device for an extended period, ensure it is charged to about 50%.

7.3 Storage

Store the DeepVNA-101 and its accessories in the provided EVA protective bag when not in use. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DeepVNA-101, consider the following:

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the device to a power source using the USB-C cable and try again.
  • Screen unresponsive: Try using the resistive screen touch pen. If the issue persists, restart the device.
  • Inaccurate measurements: Ensure proper calibration using the provided OPEN, SHORT, and LOAD calibration pieces before taking measurements. Check cable connections for tightness and integrity.
  • Connectivity issues with PC/Android: Verify that the USB cable is securely connected and that the correct software (VNA Saver for PC, NanoVNA-Web App for Android) is installed and running.

9. User Tips

  • Always perform a full calibration with the provided calibration kit before making critical measurements to ensure accuracy across the frequency range.
  • When connecting to external circuits or antennas, use high-quality SMA cables to minimize signal loss and interference.
  • Familiarize yourself with the rotary encoder for quick and precise menu navigation, especially for fine-tuning frequency or other parameters.
  • Regularly back up your saved .snp data files to a computer to prevent data loss.
