6. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to assemble your computer system with the Atermiter X99 D4 Motherboard.

6.1. CPU Installation

  1. Carefully open the LGA 2011-3 CPU socket retention mechanism.
  2. Align the CPU with the socket, ensuring the gold triangle on the CPU matches the triangle on the socket.
  3. Gently place the CPU into the socket without forcing it.
  4. Close the retention mechanism to secure the CPU.
  5. Apply thermal paste to the CPU and install the CPU cooler.

6.2. Memory (RAM) Installation

The motherboard supports DDR4 memory. For optimal performance and stability, follow the recommended installation priority:

  • All RAM should be installed in slot #1 and slot #4 (green slots) first.
  • When using 1 RAM module: Install in slot #1 or slot #4.
  • When using 2 RAM modules: Install in slot #1 and slot #4.
  • When using 3 RAM modules: Install in slot #1, slot #4, and either slot #2 or slot #3.
  • When using 4 RAM modules: Install in all slots (#1, #2, #3, #4).
  • Important Note: The black RAM slots (#2 and #3) cannot function alone. Always populate green slots (#1 and #4) first.

6.3. Graphics Card Installation

  1. Locate the PCI-E X16 slot on the motherboard.
  2. Align your graphics card with the slot and press firmly until it clicks into place.
  3. Secure the graphics card with a screw to the computer case.

6.4. Storage Device Installation

  • NVME M.2 SSD: Insert the M.2 SSD into the M.2 slot and secure it with the provided screw.
  • SATA Drives: Connect your SATA SSDs or HDDs to the SATA ports using SATA data cables. Connect power from your power supply to the drives.

6.5. Power Connections

  • Connect the 24-pin ATX power cable from your power supply to the main 24-pin power connector on the motherboard.
  • Connect the 4+4 pin (8-pin) CPU power cable from your power supply to the CPU power connector near the CPU socket.

6.6. Initial Boot and OS Installation

After connecting all components, you can proceed with the initial boot and operating system installation. The following video demonstrates a system test and boot process:

7. Operating Instructions

Once your system is assembled and the operating system is installed, you can begin using your computer. Ensure all drivers for your components are installed for optimal performance. Refer to your operating system's documentation for specific usage instructions.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean dust from your computer case and components using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Handling: Always handle the motherboard by its edges. Avoid touching components or circuit traces directly.
  • Water Stains: The motherboard is brand new, but it is possible to have minor water stains from the manufacturing process. This is normal and does not affect functionality.

9. Troubleshooting

  • No Boot/No Display: Ensure all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, GPU power) are securely connected. Verify RAM modules are correctly seated in the recommended slots. Check that the graphics card is properly installed.
  • Chipset Variation: Due to different production batches, the motherboard may come with various Intel chipsets (e.g., H81, B85, Q85, Q87, Z87, H87). This is normal and does not affect compatibility with the advertised CPU and memory types.
  • Inaccurate Temperature Readings: The motherboard does not have a dedicated temperature control chip for software monitoring. Software-reported temperatures (e.g., 110°-120°C) are virtual readings. The actual temperature can be measured with a physical thermometer, and normal operating temperature should not exceed 50°C.
  • LED Backlight: For improved stability, future versions of the motherboard may omit the LED backlight. This is a design change and not an indication of a fault.
