1. Introduction

The ANENG AC27 Socket Tester is primarily designed for polarity detection in 10A specification three-hole power sockets and for testing the protection function of leakage switches (RCD). It provides a quick and accurate way to detect the wiring status of a socket. Additionally, it can measure the Live-Neutral voltage and Neutral-Ground voltage of the socket, and features a function for sensing and measuring whether the circuit is live.

5. Setup

The ANENG AC27 Socket Tester is designed for plug-and-play operation. Ensure you have the correct plug type (EU or US) for your region.

Initial Connection:

  1. Turn on the socket tester (if applicable, some models are always on when plugged in).
  2. Insert the tester into a standard three-hole power socket.
  3. The wiring indicator lights on the tester will illuminate according to the current wiring status of the socket.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Socket Polarity Test

This test identifies common wiring faults in your electrical sockets.

  1. After inserting the tester into a socket as described in the Setup section, observe the pattern of the wiring indicator lights (N, PE, L).
  2. Refer to the 'Function Description' image and the comparison table below to determine the wiring status.

Note: '●' indicates the light is on, blank indicates the light is off.

This product can identify missing live wire, missing neutral wire, missing ground wire, live/neutral reverse, live/ground reverse, and live/ground reverse with missing ground. It cannot identify the connection status of live wire and neutral wire reverse if the ground is also missing.

6.2. Leakage Switch Protection Detection (RCD Test)

WARNING: Before performing this test, ensure all electrical appliances connected to the circuit are turned off to prevent any damage or loss due to power interruption.

  1. Insert the tester into a three-hole power socket.
  2. Confirm that the display screen indicates 'Correct Wiring' (all three indicator lights are on).
  3. Press the 'Leakage Test' button (press for less than 3 seconds).
  4. A normal leakage switch (RCD) should trip, cutting off power to the socket.
  5. If the leakage switch does not trip, it indicates that the leakage switch is faulty or missing. In this case, consult a professional electrician for timely repair.

Note: The Leakage test button requires correct connection to the live wire, neutral wire, and ground wire to function effectively.

7. Maintenance

Cleaning:

Clean the exterior of the tester with a damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents, solvents, or other harsh chemicals, as these may damage the device.

Attention: After cleaning, ensure the tester is completely dry before storing or using it again.

8. Troubleshooting

If the ANENG AC27 Socket Tester indicates a wiring fault or the RCD test fails, follow these general troubleshooting steps:

  • Incorrect Wiring Indication: If the indicator lights show any pattern other than 'Correct', it means there is a wiring fault (e.g., open ground, open neutral, reversed polarity). This is a safety hazard. Immediately stop using the socket and consult a qualified electrician to inspect and correct the wiring.
  • RCD Test Failure: If the RCD does not trip when the 'Leakage Test' button is pressed (and the wiring is confirmed correct), the RCD itself is faulty or missing. This means there is no leakage protection, which is a serious safety concern. Discontinue use of the circuit and contact a professional electrician for repair or replacement of the RCD.
  • No Lights/No Power: If the tester does not light up when plugged into a socket, first check if the socket itself has power using another known working appliance. If the socket has power but the tester does not work, the tester may be faulty.

Always prioritize safety. Do not attempt to repair electrical wiring or RCDs yourself unless you are a qualified professional.
