4. Setup and Installation
Before you begin, ensure you have a compatible PC case, power supply, CPU cooler (not included), and any additional storage devices or graphics cards you plan to use. Always handle components with care and consider using an anti-static wrist strap.
4.1 Motherboard Layout
Familiarize yourself with the motherboard's various components and connectors:

- CPU Socket (LGA 2011-3): For Intel Xeon E5 processors.
- DDR4 Slots (x4): For DDR4 ECC REG memory modules.
- PCI-E 16X Slot: For graphics cards.
- PCI-E 1X Slot: For expansion cards.
- SATA 2.0 (x2) & SATA 3.0 (x1): For SATA storage devices.
- NVMe M.2 Slot: For high-speed NVMe SSDs.
- 24Pin DC & 8Pin DC: Main power connectors from the power supply.
- 4Pin CPU Fan & 3Pin Fan: Fan headers.
- Audio: Front panel audio connector.
- USB 2.0 & USB 3.0: Front panel USB headers.
- RESET SW, HDD-LED, POWER SW, POWER-LED: Front panel headers for case buttons and indicators.
- PS/2 Ports: For legacy keyboard/mouse.
- USB 2.0 Ports (x4): Rear USB ports.
- USB 3.0 Ports (x2): Rear USB ports.
- Gigabit Ethernet: RJ45 port for network connection.
- Audio Jacks: Rear audio output/input.
4.2 CPU Installation
The Intel Xeon E5 2640 V4 CPU is typically pre-installed in the combo kit. If not, carefully open the LGA 2011-3 socket lever, align the CPU with the socket (matching the golden triangle/notch), gently place it in, and close the lever to secure it. Apply thermal paste and install a compatible LGA 2011-3 CPU cooler (not included).
4.3 RAM Installation
The Kllisre X99 motherboard supports DDR4 ECC REG memory in dual-channel configuration. Proper installation order is crucial for stability and performance.

- Important: The green RAM slots must be populated first. The black RAM slots cannot function alone.
- For 1 RAM module: Install in slot 3 or slot 4 (green slots).
- For 2 RAM modules (included in kit): Install in slot 3 and slot 4 (green slots) for dual-channel operation.
- For 3 RAM modules: Install in slot 3, slot 4, and either slot 1 or slot 2.
- For 4 RAM modules: Install in all available slots.
To install, open the clips on both ends of the memory slot, align the memory module's notch with the slot's key, and press down firmly on both ends until the clips snap into place.
4.4 Storage Device Installation
- M.2 NVMe SSD: Locate the M.2 slot (often labeled 'NVME M.2'). Insert the M.2 SSD at an angle, then gently push it down and secure it with the provided screw.
- SATA Drives (HDD/SSD): Connect your SATA hard drives or SSDs to the SATA 2.0 or SATA 3.0 ports using SATA data cables. Ensure you also connect power from your power supply to these drives.
4.5 Power Connections
Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector and the 8-pin CPU power connector from your power supply to the corresponding ports on the motherboard. Ensure they are firmly seated.
4.6 Front Panel Connections
Connect your PC case's front panel cables (Power Button, Reset Button, HDD LED, Power LED, Front USB, Front Audio) to the corresponding headers on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard layout diagram (Figure 4.1) and your PC case manual for specific pin assignments.
4.7 Back I/O Ports
Once the motherboard is installed in the case, the rear I/O ports will be accessible through the I/O shield. Connect your peripherals here.

- PS/2 Ports: For keyboard and mouse.
- USB 2.0 Ports (x4): For general USB devices.
- USB 3.0 Ports (x2): For high-speed USB devices.
- Gigabit Ethernet Port: For network cable connection.
- Audio Jacks: For speakers, headphones, and microphones.
5. Operating Instructions
After all components are installed and connected, you can power on your system. The motherboard will perform a Power-On Self-Test (POST). If successful, you can proceed with installing your operating system (e.g., Windows, Linux) from a bootable USB drive or DVD. Ensure all necessary drivers for the chipset, LAN, and audio are installed for optimal performance. These can usually be found on the manufacturer's website or a provided driver disc.
6. Maintenance
- Keep it Clean: Regularly clean dust from inside your PC case, especially from CPU cooler fins and fan blades, to prevent overheating. Use compressed air for best results.
- BIOS Updates: Check the manufacturer's website periodically for BIOS updates. Update only if necessary and follow instructions carefully.
- Driver Updates: Keep your system drivers (chipset, graphics, audio, LAN) updated for stability and performance.
- CMOS Battery: If your system loses time or BIOS settings, the CMOS battery may need replacement (CR2032 type).
7. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Check all power connections (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, power supply switch, wall outlet). Ensure the front panel power switch is correctly connected.
- No Display: Ensure your monitor is connected to the graphics card (if installed) or the motherboard's integrated graphics output (if available and CPU supports it). Reseat the graphics card and RAM modules.
- System Instability/Crashes: This can be caused by overheating, faulty RAM, or an unstable power supply. Check CPU and GPU temperatures. Run memory diagnostic tools.
- Boot Loop: Often related to incorrect BIOS settings or faulty components. Try clearing CMOS (remove CMOS battery for a few minutes or use the clear CMOS jumper if available).
- Peripherals Not Working: Check USB connections, ensure drivers are installed. For PS/2 devices, ensure they are connected before booting.
- Network Issues: Verify LAN cable connection. Check network drivers and Windows network settings. The onboard LAN is Gigabit (1000Mbps).
8. User Tips
- Motherboard Form Factor: The motherboard dimensions (216mm x 190mm) indicate it is a Micro-ATX (mATX) form factor. Ensure your PC case is compatible with mATX motherboards.
- CPU Cooler: A CPU cooler is not included. You will need to purchase an LGA 2011-3 compatible cooler. Consider the clearance inside your PC case when selecting a cooler, especially for height.
- RAM Configuration: Always prioritize filling the green RAM slots first (slots 3 and 4) for optimal dual-channel performance. The black slots cannot be used alone.
- GPU Compatibility: The PCIe x16 slot is standard and should be compatible with most modern and older graphics cards, such as an AMD Radeon HD 6450.
- LAN Speed: The onboard LAN is a Realtek Gigabit Ethernet card, supporting speeds up to 1000Mbps.
9. Warranty and Support
The CPU and Memory included in this combo kit come with a 1-year warranty. For technical support or warranty claims, please contact your seller or the Kllisre customer service. Keep your proof of purchase for warranty validation.
