5. Operation
5.1 Powering On/Off
Press the Power Switch to turn the detector ON or OFF.
5.2 Battery Installation and Low Battery Indicator
Install two 9V batteries into the battery holder. When the battery power is low, the battery icon on the LCD screen will flash, reminding you to replace the batteries.
5.3 Detection Modes and Discrimination (DISC)
The MMD02 offers two main detection modes: All Metal and Discrimination. The Discrimination (DISC) button allows you to filter out unwanted metals.

- All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metals. This is the default mode after pressing the DISC button three times.
- Discrimination Mode (DISC): Press the DISC button to cycle through discrimination settings:
- Press once: Ferrous metals (e.g., iron) are eliminated. The detector will emit a low tone for ferrous metals.
- Press twice: Ferrous metals and low conductivity non-ferrous metals (e.g., nickels, small jewelry, screws, tin foil) are eliminated. The detector will emit a medium tone for low conductivity non-ferrous metals.
- Press three times: Returns to All Metal mode. The detector will emit a high tone for high conductivity non-ferrous metals (e.g., copper, silver, clad coins).
The display will show different icons depending on the detected metal type and approximate depth.
5.4 Backlight
If you are using the MMD02 in low-light conditions or darkness, press the Backlight ON/OFF Button to activate the display backlight for better visibility.
5.5 Headphone Usage
Connect 3.5mm headphones (not included) to the headphone jack on the control panel. This allows for clearer audio signals, especially in noisy environments, and helps conserve battery life.
5.6 Using the Waterproof Search Coil
The search coil is waterproof and can be used for detection in shallow water and humid environments. Important: The control unit and detection rod are NOT waterproof. Only the search coil is designed for water immersion.

6. Maintenance
- Keep the detector clean and dry after each use.
- Wipe the search coil with a damp cloth if used in water or muddy conditions.
- Store the detector in its carrying bag in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.

7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Overload Warning
If the screen is blank and only the "OVERLOAD-RAISE COIL" icon flashes, it indicates that there is a large underground metal object or strong ground magnetism. In this situation, the MMD02 will enter overload mode and will not function normally. Try moving to a different location or raising the coil slightly.
7.2 No Power
- Ensure the batteries are correctly installed with the correct polarity.
- Check if the batteries are fully charged or replace them if the low battery indicator was flashing.
