3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The GM640 requires 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries (not included in the standard package due to shipping restrictions). To install the batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert three AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2. Probe Connection

The measuring probe is detachable. To connect the probe to the main unit:

  1. Align the connector of the probe with the port at the top of the main GM640 unit.
  2. Gently push the probe connector into the port until it is firmly seated.

4.4. Performing a Measurement

  1. Ensure both probes are inserted vertically into the grain sample.
  2. Insert the two probes quickly into the material.
  3. Maintain a consistent measurement method each time for reliable results.
  4. After insertion, wait for the second repeated reading on the instrument to stabilize. This stable reading is your measured standard value.

4.5. Data Hold Function

  • Press the HOLD button to freeze the current measurement on the display. The 'HOLD' symbol will appear.
  • Press the HOLD button again to release the data hold and resume live readings.

4.6. Backlight Control

  • Press the Backlight button (sun icon) to turn the display backlight ON or OFF. This is useful for reading in low-light conditions.
