4. Operating Modes

The SF-BT013 offers three distinct operating modes:

Figure 5: 3-in-1 Bluetooth Audio Adapter Modes

4.1 Transmitter Mode (TX)

In TX mode, the SF-BT013 transmits audio from non-Bluetooth devices (e.g., TV, PC, Laptop) to Bluetooth-enabled headphones or speakers.

Diagram for Transmitter Mode (TX) showing TV, Laptop, and PC connected to the SF-BT013, which then streams audio wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones and a Bluetooth speaker.

Figure 6: Transmitter Mode (TX) Setup

  • Connect your audio source (TV, PC, Laptop) to the SF-BT013's TX Input (Optical or 3.5mm AUX).
  • The SF-BT013 will search for nearby Bluetooth headphones or speakers.
  • Pair with your desired Bluetooth audio output device(s).
  • Dual Link Feature: In TX mode, you can connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously to share audio, ideal for watching TV with a partner without disturbing others.

4.2 Receiver Mode (RX)

In RX mode, the SF-BT013 receives audio from Bluetooth-enabled devices (e.g., smartphone, tablet, computer) and outputs it to wired speakers, car audio systems, or amplifiers.

Diagram for Receiver Mode (RX) showing Smart Phones, Tablets, and Computers streaming audio wirelessly to the SF-BT013, which then outputs to wired speakers or headphones via Optical, AV, or AUX interfaces.

Figure 7: Receiver Mode (RX) Setup

  • Connect your wired audio system (speakers, amplifier) to the SF-BT013's RX Output (Optical or 3.5mm AUX).
  • On your Bluetooth source device (phone, tablet, computer), search for "Soomfon SF-BT013" and pair.
  • Audio from your source device will now play through your wired audio system.

4.3 Bypass Mode

Bypass mode allows for a direct wired connection between your audio source and output device, without using the Bluetooth functionality. This means the SF-BT013 acts as a pass-through device, and you do not need to turn it off to use your wired setup.

Diagram for Bypass Mode showing TV, Laptop, and PC connected to the SF-BT013, which then outputs directly to wired speakers or headphones, bypassing Bluetooth functionality.

Figure 8: Bypass Mode Setup

  • Connect your audio source (e.g., TV) to the SF-BT013's input.
  • Connect your audio output device (e.g., wired speakers) to the SF-BT013's output.
  • The audio signal will pass directly through the device.

Bypass Mode Volume Adjustment (Optical Connection)

When using an optical cable in bypass mode, especially with a TV, specific settings may be required:

  • To External Speakers: Set your TV's audio output to "PCM" (Settings > Sound > Digital Audio Output > PCM). Volume adjustment will typically be done via the speaker's control knob or the SF-BT013's knob, not the TV remote. Some TVs may also require setting sound to "External Speakers."
  • To Amplifier: Set your TV's audio output to "RAW" (Settings > Sound > Digital Audio Output > RAW). Volume and audio source selection should be managed via the amplifier's remote control or manual.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device requires a 4-digit password for pairing: The SF-BT013 does not bypass password requirements. If your sound system requires a password, you will need to enter it. This is dependent on your sound system, not the adapter.
  • No sound in Bypass Mode (Optical Connection): Refer to section 4.3 for detailed instructions on adjusting your TV's digital audio output settings (PCM for speakers, RAW for amplifiers).
  • USB connection for audio: The USB-C port is for power supply only. It does not support audio input or output.
  • Connecting multiple speakers/headphones: In TX mode, the device supports connecting up to two Bluetooth speakers or headphones simultaneously. In RX mode, only one device can be used as an audio output source at a time.
  • Bluetooth range issues: The stated range (14m TX indoor, 20-30m RX indoor, 50m RX outdoor) can be affected by obstacles (walls, metal, people) or electromagnetic interference. Try to minimize obstructions between the adapter and your connected devices.
  • No volume control: The SF-BT013 has a rotary knob on the panel for volume control.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SOOMFON SF-BT013, please follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Dry: Avoid exposing the device to water, moisture, or high humidity.
  • Clean Gently: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not expose the device to extremely high or low temperatures.
  • Handle with Care: Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Proper Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the device in a cool, dry place.

8. User Tips

  • Automatic Reconnection: In RX mode, once paired, the device remembers the pairing and will automatically connect to the last connected device when powered on.
  • Volume Control: Utilize the rotary knob on the device's panel for convenient volume adjustments.
  • Optimal Placement: For best Bluetooth range and stability, place the SF-BT013 in an open area, minimizing physical obstructions like walls or large metal objects.
  • Dual Listening: Take advantage of the dual link feature in TX mode to connect two pairs of Bluetooth headphones, allowing two people to enjoy audio from a single source simultaneously.
