4.2 Surface Preparation
- Clean the chosen installation area on the outside bottom of the fuel tank thoroughly.
- Use the provided sandpaper to lightly abrade the surface. This helps ensure strong adhesion.
- Wipe away any dust or debris.
4.3 Sensor Attachment
- Apply the 3M adhesive pad to the sensor's contact surface.
- Mix the two components of the AB Epoxy Glue for 20-30 seconds until thoroughly combined.
- Inject the mixed AB Epoxy Glue onto the sensor's contact surface, covering the 3M pad.
- Firmly press the sensor onto the prepared tank surface.
- Use the stainless steel strap and short straps (cable ties) to further secure the sensor to the tank, ensuring a tight fit.

4.5 Installation Verification
After installation, verify successful setup using the mobile app and the sensor's indicator light:

Figure 7: Installation verification using indicator light and mobile app
- Indicator Light: The probe should show a stable GREEN light. If it flashes red, you need to hold and recheck the position.
- Mobile App Status: Ensure the mobile app displays the following:
- Real Time & Smooth Value are stable and close to the real height.
- Signal Strength is more than 10 or stable.
- Valid Signal Quantity is stable, more than 20.
- Tilt Angle is less than 11 Degrees.
5. Operating Instructions
The UL212 sensor operates by detecting fuel level height using an ultrasonic probe. It processes the height signal through its built-in program and transmits the data via BLE Bluetooth, RS232, RS485, or Analog output to a connected GPS Tracker or Mobile DVR. This data is then sent to a monitoring platform for analysis and reporting.

5.1 Mobile App Usage
The UL212 mobile application allows for configuration, calibration, and diagnostics:

Figure 9: UL212 Mobile App interface for configuration and diagnostics
- Configure Volume Parameter: Set up tank dimensions and shapes for accurate volume calculation.
- Rename Sensor ID: Assign a unique identifier to each sensor.
- Configure Temperature Compensation: Adjust for different liquid types to maintain accuracy.
- Change Protocol: Select the appropriate communication protocol (RS232/RS485) to fit your tracking device (GPS tracker/DVR).
- Diagnostic Sensor: Perform diagnostics before and after installation to ensure optimal performance.
5.2 Fuel Monitoring and Alerting
The sensor, when integrated with a GPS tracker or Mobile DVR, can provide real-time data to a monitoring platform. This enables:
- Real-time Fuel Level: Continuous monitoring of fuel levels.
- Fuel Theft Detection: The system can detect sudden drops in fuel level, especially when the ignition is off or the vehicle is stationary.
- Refueling Identification: Sudden increases in fuel level indicate refueling events.

6. Maintenance
The UL212 sensor is designed for low maintenance. However, regular checks can ensure its longevity and accurate performance:
- Keep Clean: Periodically inspect the sensor's surface for dirt, grime, or debris buildup. Clean gently with a soft cloth if necessary.
- Check Connections: Ensure all wiring connections remain secure and free from corrosion.
- Adhesion Check: Occasionally check the sensor's adhesion to the tank. If it appears loose, re-secure it following the installation steps.
- Software Updates: Check for any available firmware or mobile app updates from the manufacturer to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your UL212 sensor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
7.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- Sensor Indicator Light Flashes Red:
Problem: Indicates an unstable signal or improper installation position.
Solution: Recheck the sensor's position on the tank. Ensure it's on a flat surface, away from internal tank components, and that the adhesive is firm. Use the mobile app to verify signal strength and tilt angle. - Inaccurate or Unstable Readings in Mobile App:
Problem: Readings are fluctuating or do not match actual fuel levels.
Solution:
- Verify the sensor's installation position and adhesion.
- Check the 'Signal Strength' and 'Valid Signal Quantity' in the mobile app. These should be stable and above recommended thresholds (Signal Strength > 10, Valid Signal Quantity > 20).
- Ensure the 'Tilt Angle' is less than 11 degrees.
- Recalibrate the sensor using the mobile app, ensuring correct tank parameters are entered.
- Check for any obstructions or excessive buildup on the tank surface where the sensor is attached.
- No Data Output to GPS Tracker/Mobile DVR:
Problem: The connected tracking device is not receiving data from the sensor.
Solution:
- Check all wiring connections (GND, Power, RS232/RS485, Analog Output) for proper seating and continuity.
- Ensure the sensor is powered correctly (9-80V DC).
- Verify that the communication protocol (RS232/RS485) configured in the mobile app matches the input protocol of your GPS tracker/Mobile DVR.
- Confirm that the GPS tracker/Mobile DVR is correctly configured to read data from the sensor.
- Fuel Theft Alarm Not Triggering:
Problem: Fuel theft occurs but no alarm is generated.
Solution:
- Ensure the I/O output for the alarm is correctly wired and configured with your tracking system.
- Check the alarm thresholds and logic within your monitoring platform or GPS tracker settings.
- Verify that the sensor is providing accurate and real-time data to the platform.
8. User Tips
- Optimal Adhesion: For the best and most durable installation, ensure the tank surface is thoroughly cleaned and lightly sanded before applying the 3M pad and epoxy glue. This maximizes the bond strength.
- Initial Calibration is Key: Always perform the initial calibration using the mobile app after installation. Accurately inputting tank dimensions and liquid type will significantly improve the precision of fuel level readings.
- Regular Data Review: Periodically review your fuel monitoring data for patterns. This can help identify not only fuel theft but also inefficient driving habits or potential engine issues affecting fuel consumption.
- Temperature Compensation: If monitoring different types of liquids or operating in environments with significant temperature fluctuations, utilize the mobile app's temperature compensation feature for consistent accuracy.
