2. General Safety Instructions

Always follow basic safety precautions when using power tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and serious personal injury. Keep this manual and all safety warnings for future reference.

2.1 Work Area Safety

  • Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2 Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

2.3 Personal Safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool.
  • Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection for appropriate conditions.
  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

2.4 Grinder Specific Safety

  • Always use the guard provided with the tool. Ensure the guard is securely attached and positioned for maximum safety.
  • Do not use grinding wheels that are cracked or damaged.
  • Ensure the accessory is rated for at least the maximum speed marked on the power tool.
  • Hold the tool firmly with both hands.
  • Keep hands clear of the rotating accessory.
  • Be aware of kickback. The Kickback Brake and E-CLUTCH® System are designed to mitigate this, but proper technique is still crucial.

6.3 Utilizing Safety Features (E-CLUTCH® and Kickback Brake)

The E-CLUTCH® and Kickback Brake systems are designed to enhance user safety by reacting to bind-up or stall conditions. While these features provide significant protection, they are not a substitute for safe operating practices. Always be prepared for potential kickback and maintain control of the tool.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the tool's ventilation openings to prevent overheating. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris. Do not use water or chemical cleaners.

7.2 Battery Care

Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store batteries in discharged condition. Always use the recommended DEWALT charger for your battery packs.

7.3 Inspection

Before each use, inspect the tool for any signs of damage, loose parts, or worn accessories. Replace damaged parts immediately. Ensure the guard is intact and securely fastened.

8. Troubleshooting

Reduced power/performanceLow battery charge; Incorrect battery type (not FLEXVOLT for maximum power); OverloadCharge battery. Use a FLEXVOLT battery (e.g., DCB606) for optimal performance. Reduce load on the tool.
Tool stops unexpectedlyE-CLUTCH® or Kickback Brake activated; OverheatingCheck for bind-up or stall conditions. Allow tool to cool down if overheating.
Excessive vibrationDamaged or improperly installed wheel; Loose componentsInspect wheel for damage and ensure it is correctly installed and tightened. Check for loose guard or handle.

9. User Tips

  • For demanding tasks requiring maximum power, always use a DEWALT FLEXVOLT® battery (e.g., DCB606) to fully utilize the FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE™ technology.
  • Regularly check the condition of your grinding and cutting wheels. A sharp, undamaged wheel will perform better and safer.
  • When cutting, allow the tool to do the work. Forcing the grinder can lead to premature wear, reduced performance, and increased risk of kickback.
  • Always ensure your work area is clear of obstructions and that the workpiece is securely clamped before beginning operation.
