3. Installation

3.1 Mounting the Controller

The DF-96D/DF-96DK controller supports two types of installation:

  • Wall Mounted: Secure the controller directly to a wall using appropriate fasteners.
  • DIN Rail Mounted: Attach the controller to a standard DIN rail for organized electrical panel installations.

3.2 Wiring Diagram

Connect the controller according to the following diagram. Ensure all connections are secure and follow local electrical codes. The controller operates on AC220V/50HZ. For loads exceeding 20A, it is recommended to use a 30A delay contactor (not included).

Figure 6: General Wiring Diagram for DF-96DK Model.

Note: The diagram shows connection to a contactor. The controller's output (N, L terminals) should be connected to the contactor's coil (A1, A2) and power terminals (1/L1, 3/L2) as shown, with the load connected to the contactor's output (2/T1, 4/T2).

3.3 Probe Installation for Different Control Modes

The controller uses five probes (A, B, C, D, E) to detect water levels. Probe C (black) always serves as the common line and should be placed at the lowest point in the pool or tank. The other probes are positioned based on the desired control mode.

3.3.1 Single-Control UP Pool (Water Storage)

This mode is used to automatically fill a tank or pool when the water level drops below a certain point and stop filling when it reaches an upper limit. Refer to Figure 7 for probe placement.

Diagram showing probe placement for single-control UP pool (water storage) mode. Probes A, B, C, D, E are shown in a tank.
Figure 7: Probe Setup for Single-Control UP Pool.
  • A (Red): Upper water level control point. When water reaches probe A, the controller automatically stops the pump.
  • B (Blue): Lower water level control point. When water drops below probe B, the controller automatically starts the pump.
  • C (Black): Common line. Place at the bottom of the pool.
  • D (Green) & E (Yellow): Connect these two probes with probe C (black).

3.3.2 Single-Control DOWN Pool (Water Drainage)

This mode is used to automatically drain a tank or pool when the water level rises above a certain point and stop draining when it reaches a lower limit. Refer to Figure 8 for probe placement.

Diagram showing probe placement for single-control DOWN pool (water drainage) mode. Probes A, B, C, D, E are shown in a tank.
Figure 8: Probe Setup for Single-Control DOWN Pool.
  • E: Upper water level control point. When water reaches probe E, the controller automatically starts the pump.
  • D: Lower water level control point. When water drops below probe D, the controller automatically stops the pump.
  • C (Black): Common line. Place at the bottom of the pool.
  • A & B: These probes should be disconnected.

3.3.3 Lack of Water Protection

This mode protects the pump from running dry when the water source level is too low. Refer to Figure 9 for probe placement.

Diagram showing probe placement for lack of water protection mode. Probes A, B, C, D, E are shown in a tank.
Figure 9: Probe Setup for Lack of Water Protection.
  • C & D: Lower water level control points. When water drops below either C or D, the controller automatically stops the pump.
  • E & C: Short-connect these two probes.
  • A & B: These probes should be disconnected.

3.3.4 Joint Control UP and DOWN Pool

This advanced mode allows for coordinated control between two pools (e.g., a supply pool and a storage pool). Refer to Figure 10 for probe placement.

Diagram showing probe placement for joint control of UP and DOWN pools. Probes A, B, C, D, E are distributed between two tanks.
Figure 10: Probe Setup for Joint Control UP and DOWN Pool.
  • A: Upper water level control point in the UP pool. When water reaches probe A, the controller automatically stops the pump.
  • B: Lower water level control point in the UP pool. When water drops below probe B, the controller automatically starts the pump.
  • C (Black): Common line. Place at the bottom of both the UP and DOWN pools.
  • D: Lower water level control point in the DOWN pool. When water drops below probe D, the controller automatically stops the pump.
  • E: Upper water level control point in the DOWN pool. When water reaches probe E, the controller automatically starts the pump to drain water from the DOWN pool. If this function is not desired, probe E should be disconnected.

4. Operation

Once installed and wired correctly, the DF-96D/DF-96DK controller will operate automatically based on the configured probe setup.

  • DF-96D Model: This model operates purely automatically based on water level detection.
  • DF-96DK Model: This model includes a manual switch with ON, OFF, and AUTO positions.
    • ON: Forces the pump to run continuously, regardless of water levels.
    • OFF: Forces the pump to stop, regardless of water levels.
    • AUTO: Enables automatic water level control as configured by the probes.

The controller features a fast response and high sensitivity to ensure timely control of water levels.

5. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your water level controller, regular maintenance is recommended:

  • Probe Inspection: Periodically check the water level sensing probes for any signs of rust, corrosion, or buildup. Clean them gently if necessary to maintain accurate readings.
  • Connection Check: Ensure all electrical connections remain tight and secure. Loose connections can lead to intermittent operation or failure.
  • Environmental Conditions: Keep the controller unit in a dry, protected environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and excessive moisture, unless specifically rated for such conditions.
  • Power Cycle: If the unit behaves unexpectedly, try power cycling it (turn off, wait 30 seconds, then turn on) to reset its internal state.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your water level controller, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

Problem: Controller has power but does not operate.

  • Check Red Indicator: Verify if the red power indicator light on the controller is illuminated. If not, check the main power supply and all electrical connections to ensure they are secure and providing power to the unit.
  • Wiring Integrity: Ensure all wiring connections are correct and tight.

Problem: Pump does not start or stop automatically as expected.

  • Probe Placement:
    • Verify that the probes are placed at the correct water levels according to your desired control mode (refer to Section 3.3).
    • Ensure probes are not too high or too low, preventing them from making or breaking contact with water at the intended levels.
  • Probe Connections:
    • Check for any dislocation or incorrect short-circuiting of the upper and lower control probes.
    • Ensure the common line (C) probe is correctly placed at the lowermost bottom of the pool/tank.
  • Probe Condition:
    • Inspect the probes for rust, corrosion, or mineral buildup, which can interfere with conductivity. Clean them thoroughly if necessary.
    • Ensure the connections between the probe wires and the controller terminals are firm and free from corrosion.

7. User Tips

  • Probe Length Adjustment: The provided sensor wires are 200cm long. You can adjust the effective length of the probes by cutting them to suit the specific depth requirements of your water tank or pool. Ensure the cut ends are properly stripped and connected.
  • Secure Probe Placement: Always ensure probes are securely fixed at their desired levels. Movement of probes can lead to inaccurate readings and erratic pump behavior.
  • Electrical Safety: Always disconnect power before performing any installation, wiring, or maintenance on the controller or pump. If you are unsure about electrical wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
  • Contactor for High Loads: For pumps with a current draw close to or exceeding 20A, it is highly recommended to use an external contactor with a higher rating (e.g., 30A) to protect the controller and ensure safe operation.
