1. Introduction

The Bafang EB02 Display is an intelligent smart display controller designed for Bafang Mid Motors. This advanced display offers a clear view of your e-bike's performance, featuring speed limit adjustments, Bluetooth connectivity, call reminders, and map navigation. Developed in 2022, it is compatible with various Bafang motor series including BBS0102, M400/G330, M500/G520, M600/G521, M510/G522, M620/G510, and M800/G530.

3. Setup and Installation

The EB02 display is designed for easy installation on your e-bike's handlebar. Ensure you have the correct UART or CAN plug type for your Bafang motor before installation.

3.1. Mounting the Display

The display is designed to adapt to 22.2mm or 26mm handlebars. Securely attach the display to your handlebar using the provided mounting bracket. Connect the display cable to your Bafang motor's corresponding port (UART or CAN).

3.2. Initial Power On and Password

To power on the display, long press the "Switch" button. The instrument will power on and enter the main interface. The initial password to access settings is 0000.

3.3. App Download and Bluetooth Pairing

To utilize Bluetooth features like map navigation and call reminders, download the "BIKE GO" app on your smartphone. The app is available for both iPhone (App Store) and Android (via QR code).

Once installed, open the app and follow the instructions to pair with your EB02 display via Bluetooth. The display will show a QR code for easy pairing (see Section 5.6 for detailed steps).

4. Operation

4.1. Button Definitions

The EB02 display features three main buttons: '+', '-', and 'Power'.

  • '+' Key: Long press to turn on/off headlights.
  • '-' Key: Long press to enter/cancel boost mode.
  • Power Key: Long press to power on/off the instrument.

4.2. Main Interface Display

The main interface provides real-time information about your ride:

  • Headlight Display: Indicates headlights on/off state.
  • Navigation Function: Lights up when mobile app is connected and navigation starts (real-time navigation may require a fee).
  • Maintenance Tips: Reminder signs for vehicle breakdowns or maintenance.
  • Cruise Control: Icon lights up when vehicle enters constant speed cruise.
  • Bluetooth Function: Bluetooth logo lights up when mobile app is successfully connected.
  • Power Alert: Displays real-time power.
  • Gear Display: Shows current assist level (0-5 gears).
  • Real-time Speed: Current speed of the vehicle.
  • ODO: Accumulated total mileage.
  • TRIP: Single ride mileage.
  • AVG: Average riding speed.

4.3. Power Gear Selection

After entering the main interface, use the '+' or '-' buttons to switch the power assist gear. The default setting is 0-5 gears. Gear 0 provides no power output, Gear 1 is the lowest assist, and Gear 5 is the highest. The display defaults to Gear 0 when powered on.

4.4. Headlight/Backlight Switch

  • To turn on: Long press the '+' key when the light is off. The screen headlight logo will light up, and the instrument's brightness will dim.
  • To turn off: Long press the '+' key when the light is on. The screen headlight logo will not disappear, but the display will show a gray headlight switch display interface.

4.5. Booster Mode

When the e-bike is stationary, click the '-' button to set to 0 gear. Press the '-' key again to activate the static boost mode. The boost logo will appear. In push mode, the boost logo is dynamically displayed, and the vehicle speed is less than 6km/h. If the push state is stopped, the boost logo disappears, and the static boost logo state is restored. If no button is pressed within 5 seconds in static boost, it automatically adjusts to 0 gear.

5. Settings

To access the settings menu, press the 'Power' button. Use the '+' and '-' keys to navigate through options and 'Power' to select or confirm.

5.1. Display Settings

Navigate to "Display Setting" in the main menu. Options include:

  • Unit: Switch between Metric and Imperial units. The device defaults to the imperial system.
  • Auto Off: Set the time (1-10 minutes) after which the display automatically turns off due to inactivity. "OFF" disables auto-shutdown. Any operation during this time will reset the timer.
  • TRIP Reset: Reset single trip mileage. Select "YES" to clear, "NO" to keep.
  • Brightness: Adjust backlight brightness (30%, 50%, 75%, 100%).
  • MAX PAS: Maximum gear setting (usually 5, not adjustable).
  • BT Rssi Level: Bluetooth distance class setting (1 is near, 5 is far).

5.2. Information Viewing

From the "Information" menu, you can view:

  • Wheel Size: Set wheel diameter (default 26 inches, configurable from 16-29 inches).
  • Speed Limit: Adjust speed limit (00-100 km/h). Default is 36 km/h for metric, 2.50 MPH for imperial.
  • Display Info: View instrument software and hardware version numbers.
  • Error Code: Check for error messages. "00" means no error.

5.3. Language Selection

From the "Language" menu, select your preferred language from English, German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, and Czech.

5.4. Theme Menu

The B02 display offers 4 different theme styles. Navigate to "Themes" and select Theme 1, 2, 3, or 4.

5.5. Password Settings

To manage password settings, navigate to the "Password" option.

  • Turn off password function: Select "Start Password" (if status is ON) and confirm. Enter the old password (default 0000) to disable.
  • Turn on/modify password: Select "Start Password" (if status is OFF) or "Reset Password". You will be prompted to enter a new password. Use '+' and '-' to toggle numbers, and 'Power' to switch digits. Confirm the new password.

Note: After the initial password is modified, you must enter a new password to enable the display password function. Do not change the initial password unless necessary.

6. Bluetooth Connection

To connect your EB02 display to the "BIKE GO" app on your smartphone:

  1. Navigate to the "Bluetooth" option in the display's settings menu.
  2. Press the 'Power' button to enter the Bluetooth QR code interface.
  3. Open the "BIKE GO" app on your smartphone and use its scan function to scan the QR code displayed on the EB02.
  4. Once successfully bound, the device interface will automatically jump to the main interface, and the Bluetooth function ID will light up.

The display also supports Bluetooth lock settings, which are turned on by default. If Bluetooth lock is enabled and there is no connection to the mobile app, the Bluetooth QR code interface will pop up.

6.1. Map Navigation

When the mobile phone application connects the Bluetooth of the display, you can select a destination to start navigation. The main interface display will change to show navigation prompts:

  • Current steering prompt and distance: Shows current turn and distance.
  • Next turn prompt and distance: Shows next turn and distance.
  • The distance to the end point: Total remaining distance to destination.

Note: The map navigation function, provided in cooperation with MAPBOX, charges a service fee of $10 after 10 free uses. This is a one-time charge collected by the map company and does not affect other Bluetooth functionalities if you choose not to pay.

6.2. Call and Message Reminders

When Bluetooth is connected, the display will show text messages, phone calls, and various other information directly on the screen, ensuring you stay informed without distraction.

  • PAS Levels: The display offers 0-5 power assist levels by default, which can be configured.
  • Motor Compatibility: The EB02 display is compatible with M420 CAN motors and other Bafang motors supporting CAN or UART protocols. Ensure you select the correct display version (CAN or UART) for your motor.
  • Speed Limit Adjustment: The display allows you to adjust the speed limit from 00 to 100 km/h. This feature can be used to unlock or set specific speed limits for your e-bike.
