Setup

1. Prerequisites

  • A Tuya ZigBee Gateway (Hub) is required for this device to function.
  • Ensure your mobile device has the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app installed.

2. Physical Installation

The energy meter module is designed for easy installation on a 35mm DIN rail.

Wiring Instructions:

  1. Connect the Live (L) and Neutral (N) wires to the corresponding terminals on the energy meter module.
  2. Connect the clamp's wires to the S1 and S2 terminals on the module.
  3. For current measurement, pass only one of the load wires (either Live or Neutral, but not both) through the clamp. The clamp is designed for non-contact measurement, ensuring safety and ease of installation without altering existing wiring.

3. App Pairing

Follow these steps to pair your energy meter with the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app:

  1. Ensure your ZigBee Gateway is powered on and connected to your home network.
  2. Power on the energy meter module.
  3. Press and hold the RESET button on the energy meter for 5 seconds until the LED indicator starts blinking. This indicates pairing mode.
  4. Open the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on your smartphone.
  5. Navigate to your ZigBee Gateway and select 'Add subdevice' or 'Discover nearby devices'.
  6. Confirm that the LED on the energy meter is blinking in the app.
  7. The app will discover and add the 'Zigbee Digital Meter'. Once added, tap 'Done'.

Operating Instructions

1. Real-time Monitoring

Once paired, the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app will display real-time data for your monitored circuit:

  • Voltage (V): Instantaneous voltage of the circuit.
  • Current (mA): Instantaneous current flowing through the circuit.
  • Power (W): Instantaneous power consumption.
  • KWh: Accumulated energy consumption.

2. Electricity and Cost Statistics

The app provides detailed historical data for energy consumption and estimated costs:

  • View daily, weekly, and monthly KWh consumption.
  • Access estimated electricity costs for various periods.

3. Automation and Scene Creation

Leverage the smart features to create automated scenes with other Tuya-compatible devices:

  • **Trigger Actions:** Set conditions based on measured power, voltage, or current. For example, if power consumption exceeds a certain value, trigger another smart device to turn on or off.
  • **Notifications:** Configure the app to send notifications based on specific conditions, such as when the current of a monitored device drops to zero (indicating it's off).

Maintenance

The Tuya Smart ZigBee Energy Meter is designed for low maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity outside its specified operating range (-10°C ~ 55°C).
  • Ensure all connections remain secure.

Troubleshooting

Q: After configuring with the app, why does the app show 'shutdown'?
A: The clamp needs to sense current to show activity. Ensure that only one wire (either live or neutral, not both) of the device you are monitoring is passed through the clamp, and that the monitored device is turned on and actively consuming power.
Q: I assume P=U*I, why is the power value shown on the app not always accurate?
A: For AC circuits, you must consider the power factor (cos(Φ)). The real power (P) consumed is calculated as P = V * I * cos(Φ) Watts. The app displays the real power, which accounts for the phase difference between voltage and current.

User Tips

  • **ZigBee Gateway is Essential:** Remember that this energy meter requires a Tuya ZigBee Gateway (hub) to function. It cannot connect directly to Wi-Fi.
  • **Unidirectional Measurement:** This meter is designed to measure consumed power only. It is not a bidirectional meter and will only display positive data in the app.
  • **Single Wire Through Clamp:** For accurate current measurement, ensure only one of the load wires (either live or neutral) passes through the clamp. Passing both wires will result in zero reading.
