1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and efficient use of your Elecrow 8-inch Portable Touchscreen Monitor. This monitor features a reliable multi-touch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, delivering excellent wide viewing angles and compatibility with various operating systems. Designed for professional and personal applications, it is easy to integrate and suitable for intensive use.

The monitor supports HD 1280x800 resolution and IPS technology for consistent colors across wide viewing angles. It is compact and durable, housed in an aluminum alloy shell, making it ideal for portable setups. It features Mini HDMI-compatible and USB ports for versatile connectivity with devices such as laptops, PCs, Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, and game consoles. Built-in speakers enhance the audiovisual experience, and volume/brightness are adjustable. The monitor can be mounted via VESA or used with the included stand.

2. Safety Precautions

Warning & Safety Information:

  • Do not use in damp environments to prevent electric shock.
  • Avoid strong impacts to prevent screen damage.
  • Do not touch the screen surface directly with bare hands to avoid scratches.
  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure or high-temperature environments.
  • Do not disassemble or repair the unit yourself.

2.1. Electricity and Safety

  • Do not use a damaged power cord or plug, or a loose power socket. An electric shock or fire may result.
  • Do not touch the power plug with wet hands. An electric shock may result.
  • Insert the power plug all the way in so it is not loose. An unsecure connection may cause a fire.

2.2. Installation

  • Do not install the product near heat sources. A fire may result.
  • Do not set down the product on its front. The screen may become damaged.
  • Do not install the product on an unstable or vibrating surface (insecure shelf, sloped surface, etc.). The product may fall and become damaged and/or cause an injury.
  • Using the product in an area with excess vibration may damage the product or cause a fire.

2.3. Cleaning

  1. Power off the product and computer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the product. Hold the power cable by the plug and do not touch the cable with wet hands. Otherwise, an electric shock may result.
  3. Wipe the monitor with a clean, soft, and dry cloth.
  4. Do not apply a cleaning agent that contains alcohol, solvent, or surfactant to the monitor.
  5. Do not spray water or detergent directly on the product.
  6. Wet a soft and dry cloth in water and wring thoroughly to clean the exterior of the product.
  7. Connect the power cord to the product when cleaning is finished.
  8. Power on the product and computer.

4. Product Overview

4.1. Physical Dimensions and Controls

The monitor measures approximately 196.5mm (W) x 122mm (H) x 14mm (D).

4.2. Button Indications

No. Button Function
1 Light Blue light indicates working status.
2 Power Button Powers the monitor on/off.
3 + Default: Volume up. OSD Menu: Up/Increase adjustment.
4 - Default: Volume down. OSD Menu: Down/Decrease adjustment.
5 MENU Default: Mute function. OSD Menu: Select menu options.
6 AUTO OSD Menu: Confirm selection and exit to previous menu.

4.3. Port Description

  • USB 5V (USB Type C): Power supply for non-touch version. Power supply & touch function for touch version.
  • HDMI: Connects to a source device using an HDMI cable for signal and data transmission.
  • EAR (3.5mm Headphone Jack): Connects to an audio output device such as headphones.
  • DC: Power supply port.

5. Setup & Connection

The Elecrow 8-inch monitor is designed for plug-and-play compatibility with various devices.

5.1. Connecting to Raspberry Pi

Preparations:

  • Raspberry Pi Board (4B, 3B+, 3B, 2B+, 2B)
  • 8-inch HDMI Monitor
  • HDMI to HDMI/HDMI to Micro HDMI cable (depending on Pi model)
  • USB A to Micro USB Cable
  • 5V/2A or 5V/3A Power Adapter

Connection Steps:

  1. Connect the monitor to your Raspberry Pi using the appropriate HDMI cable.
  2. Connect the monitor's USB Type C port to a USB A port on the Raspberry Pi (for touch function and power).
  3. Power the Raspberry Pi using a 5V/2A or 5V/3A power adapter.

Note:

  • For Raspberry Pi 3B+, 3B, 2B, B+, A, use a full 2A power supply. For Raspberry Pi 4B, use a full 3A power supply.
  • For the touch version monitor, no extra driver is needed. Just connect the USB cable to the signal output device (not power adapter) to achieve the touch function.

5.2. Connecting to PC/Laptop (with HDMI Port)

Connection Steps:

  1. Connect the monitor to your PC/Laptop using the HDMI to HDMI cable.
  2. Connect the monitor's USB Type C port to a USB port on your PC/Laptop (for touch function and power).
  3. Ensure your PC/Laptop is powered on.

Note:

  • Always connect the cables first, then power on the devices.
  • If the power supply from the USB port of the connected device is insufficient, please connect an external power source to the monitor's DC port.

5.3. Initial Use

  1. Connect to power and attach the screen to your device.
  2. Power on the device; the screen will light up automatically.
  3. Adjust the screen angle or brightness for optimal viewing experience.

6. Screen Setup (OSD Menu)

6.1. How to Reconfigure OSD (On-Screen Display) Menu

  1. Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu.
  2. Press the +/- button to toggle between options in the menu. As you move from one icon to another, the option item is marked with a shadow.
  3. Press the MENU button to select the shadow marked item on the menu.
  4. Press the +/- button to select the parameter.
  5. Press the MENU button to enter the slide bar and then use the +/- button to make your changes, according to the indicators on the menu.
  6. Press the AUTO button to save the setting and return to the previous menu. If you want to adjust any other functions, repeat steps 2-5.

6.2. OSD Function Introduction

The OSD menu allows you to adjust various display settings:

  • Colour Settings:
    • Contrast: Adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Brightness: Adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Colour Temp: Adjust the Color Temperature mode (6500K/9300K/USER).
  • Picture Settings:
    • Sharpness: Adjusting range from 0 to 5.
    • Other options like H. Position, V. Position, Phase, Clock.
  • OSD Settings:
    • Language: Select OSD language (English, German, Korean, Chinese Traditional, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese Simplified, Portuguese).
    • OSD H. POS.: Adjust the horizontal position of the OSD menu (0 to 100).
    • OSD V. POS.: Adjust the vertical position of the OSD menu (0 to 100).
    • OSD Timer: Adjust OSD timeout from 0 (off) to 60 seconds.
  • Misc Settings:
    • Reset: Select "Yes" to revert all settings to the factory default mode.
    • Input selection (VGA, HDMI), DIM Level.

8. Troubleshooting Guide

This section addresses common issues that can be resolved by the user. If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact customer support.

Problem Possible Solutions
No Power
  1. Press the power button to check if the monitor is ON.
  2. Change another USB cable to have a try.
No Picture/No Signal
  1. Check whether the monitor and the signal output device are in the ON mode.
  2. Reconnect the signal cable.
  3. Check if the signal is matched with the input function.
  4. Connect another available output device/signal cable/monitor to check whether the issue is caused by the output device hardware, the video signal to the monitor or the monitor itself.
No Sound
  1. Adjust the volume settings via the button.
  2. Check whether the headphone is inserted.
  3. The silencer is working.
Dark/Light Picture Adjust the Brightness settings via the button.
Screen Flickers
  1. Power the screen with external power with full 5V/2A.
  2. Change another HDMI cable.

9. User Tips

  • Optimal Power: For stable performance, especially with touch functionality or high brightness, ensure the monitor receives adequate power. If connecting to a low-power USB port (e.g., some older laptops or Raspberry Pi models), consider using an external 5V/2A or 5V/3A power adapter.
  • Cable Management: Use the shortest possible high-quality HDMI and USB cables to minimize signal loss and potential flickering.
  • Touchscreen Calibration: If touch input seems inaccurate, check your operating system's display settings for touchscreen calibration options.
  • VESA Mounting: The monitor supports 75mm VESA mounting. When mounting, ensure proper ventilation around the monitor to prevent overheating.
  • OSD Menu Navigation: Familiarize yourself with the OSD menu buttons (+, -, MENU, AUTO) to quickly adjust settings like brightness, contrast, and input source without needing to access host device settings.

10.1. Warranty

ELECROW Monitors carry a one (1) year limited warranty from the purchase date. To receive warranty service, proof of purchase of the ELECROW product is required.

This limited warranty does not cover:

  • Improper installation or maintenance.
  • Misuse or Neglect.
  • Repair, modification, or installation of options or parts by you or any third party.
  • Improper environment: Excessive or inadequate heating or air conditioning or electrical power failures, surges or other irregularities.
  • Damage due to fire, flood, earthquake, or other accidents.
