6. Setup Guide (Repeater Mode)

This guide outlines the setup process using a mobile phone. It is recommended to set up the extender near your main router first, then relocate it after successful configuration.

1. Power On: Plug in your WiFi extender into a power outlet. Wait for approximately 30 seconds until the power light turns on. If only one light blinks or others are not on, try pressing the reset hole for 8 seconds with a paperclip.
2. Connect to Extender SSID: On your mobile phone or computer, connect to the Wi-Fi network named "wifi-XXXX". "XXXX" represents the last 4 digits of the MAC Address found on the back of the product. Do not surf the internet yet.
3. Access Web Interface: Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari) and enter the default IP address: 192.168.188.1. Enter the default password: admin.
4. Scan and Select Host Router: The repeater will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your main router's SSID (e.g., "ChinaNet-5BC8", "sohowifi") from the list to be extended.
5. Enter Host Router Password: Input the password for your main router. Ensure the password is correct and does not contain special characters like `*&^%$#@!`.
6. Set Extender SSID and Password: Configure the new SSID for your extended network (e.g., "sohowifi-PRO") and set a new password for it. The default extender name will be "XXXXXX-pro".
7. Confirm Settings: Review all the entered wireless information (Router Name, Extender SSID, Extender Password). Click "Start Connect".
8. Wait for Connection: The repeater will attempt to connect to your main router. This process may take 30-60 seconds.
9. Verify Connection: After the setting is complete, observe the signal indicator light on the repeater. If it lights up, it indicates a successful relay.
10. Reconnect to Extender WiFi: Disconnect from the "wifi-XXXX" network and reconnect your devices to the newly created extended network (e.g., "sohowifi-PRO") to access the internet.

6.1. AP Mode Setup

If you wish to use the device in AP (Access Point) mode, follow these steps:

1. Reset Device: Perform a factory reset by long-pressing the reset hole for 8 seconds.
2. Initial Setup: Follow steps 1 to 3 of the Repeater Mode setup to access the web interface.
3. Select AP Mode: In the web interface, click on "AP Settings".

7.1. Repeater Mode

In Repeater Mode, the device wirelessly connects to your existing router's Wi-Fi network and re-broadcasts it, extending the signal range. This mode is ideal for eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones and providing coverage in areas where the main router's signal is weak.

7.2. AP Mode (Access Point Mode)

In AP Mode, the device connects to your wired network (e.g., via an Ethernet cable from your modem or router) and transforms the wired connection into a wireless hotspot. This is useful for adding Wi-Fi capabilities to a wired-only network or creating a separate Wi-Fi network.

8. Troubleshooting

• Cannot connect to the internet after setup:
  • Verify that you entered the correct password for your main router.

  • Try resetting the repeater and reconfiguring.
• How to reset the repeater:

• Cannot access the Repeater's web management page (192.168.188.1):

• Wireless transmission rate slows down even with a stronger signal:
  • Wireless repeaters operate in half-duplex mode, meaning they communicate with both the router and client devices sequentially. This can inherently reduce the transmission speed. It is recommended to use the extender when your main network connection is poor or when you need larger wireless coverage to eliminate dead zones, rather than for speed enhancement.
• Devices connected to the Repeater cannot get an IP address or access the internet:
  • Check your main router's settings for MAC filtering, wireless access control, or Access Control Lists (ACL). If enabled, disable them or add the repeater's MAC address to the allowed list.
  • The repeater might not have successfully connected to your main router. Reset the repeater and reconfigure it.
  • The IP address range of your router might be exhausted, or the number of connected wireless devices has reached its limit. Reboot your main router, then reset and reconfigure the repeater.
• Only one indicator light is on, others are off:
  • Try performing a factory reset by pressing the reset hole for 8 seconds.

• Initial Placement: Always perform the initial setup of the repeater near your main router to ensure a strong signal during configuration. Once configured, you can move it to a suitable location to extend coverage.
