METERK MY-GW9-190TL Electric Circular Saw

Instruction Manual

1. Important Safety Instructions

Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury when operating this power tool.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings:

  • Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not abuse the cord. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection (safety goggles) and hearing protection. Use a dust mask if operations create dust. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.

Circular Saw Specific Safety Warnings:

  • Keep Hands Away: Keep hands away from the cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on the auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
  • Do Not Reach Under Workpiece: Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
  • Adjust Cutting Depth: Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade should be visible below the workpiece.
  • Never Hold Workpiece in Hands: Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
  • Check Lower Guard: Prior to each use, inspect the lower guard for proper closing. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position.
  • Use Correct Blade: Use only blades with the correct size and shape of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
  • Never Use Damaged Blades: Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

4. Setup

4.1 Blade Installation/Replacement:

  1. Ensure the saw is unplugged from the power source.
  2. Locate the arbor lock button (if present) and press it to secure the blade.
  3. Use the provided Allen key to loosen the arbor bolt that holds the blade in place.
  4. Carefully remove the outer flange and the old blade.
  5. Clean any dust or debris from the arbor and flanges.
  6. Place the new blade onto the arbor, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the direction of rotation (usually indicated by an arrow on the blade and saw).
  7. Reinstall the outer flange and tighten the arbor bolt securely with the Allen key. Do not overtighten.
  8. Release the arbor lock button.

4.2 Adjusting Cutting Depth:

  1. Unplug the saw.
  2. Loosen the depth adjustment lever (refer to Figure 2.3).
  3. Raise or lower the base plate until the desired cutting depth is achieved. For optimal safety and cut quality, the blade should extend approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) below the workpiece.
  4. Tighten the depth adjustment lever firmly.

4.3 Adjusting Bevel Angle:

  1. Unplug the saw.
  2. Loosen the bevel adjustment lever (refer to Figure 2.3).
  3. Tilt the saw base to the desired angle between 0° and 45°.
  4. Ensure the angle indicator aligns with the desired mark on the scale.
  5. Tighten the bevel adjustment lever firmly.

4.4 Attaching the Scale Ruler:

For precise parallel cuts, attach the scale ruler (also known as a rip fence or edge guide) to the saw's base plate. Slide the ruler into the designated slots and secure it at the desired distance from the blade for your cut.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 General Cutting Procedure:

  1. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped to a stable surface.
  2. Verify that the blade, depth, and bevel settings are correct for your cut.
  3. Plug the saw into a suitable power outlet.
  4. Align the saw blade with your cutting line. The laser guide can assist with this (refer to Figure 5.1).
  5. Press the safety lock button and then the power switch to start the saw. Allow the blade to reach full speed before engaging the workpiece.
  6. Maintain a firm grip on both handles and guide the saw smoothly through the material. Do not force the saw; let the blade do the work.
  7. Once the cut is complete, release the power switch and allow the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the workpiece.

5.2 Straight Cuts:

For straight cuts, align the saw's base plate edge or the laser guide with your marked line. Push the saw forward steadily, keeping the base plate flat against the workpiece.

5.4 Dust Collection:

Connect a suitable dust extraction system or vacuum cleaner to the dust port to minimize sawdust in your work area and improve visibility during cutting.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your circular saw.

6.1 Cleaning:

  • Always unplug the tool before cleaning.
  • Clean the tool regularly with a soft cloth, preferably after each use.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear and free from dust. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove debris.
  • Do not use solvents, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage plastic parts.

6.2 Blade Care:

  • Inspect blades before each use for sharpness, cracks, or missing teeth. Replace dull or damaged blades immediately.
  • Clean resin and pitch buildup from blades using a specialized blade cleaner.
  • Store blades properly to prevent damage.

6.3 Cord and Plug Inspection:

  • Regularly inspect the power cord and plug for any signs of damage (cuts, fraying, exposed wires).
  • If damaged, have them repaired by a qualified technician to avoid electrical hazards.

6.4 Carbon Brushes:

This saw uses carbon brushes. If the motor sparks excessively or the saw loses power, the carbon brushes may need inspection or replacement. This should be performed by a qualified service technician.
