4. Setup and Wiring Instructions

  1. Initial Module Function Check: Before connecting any battery, connect the module to a mobile phone charging head using a Type-C data cable. Observe the four LED lights; they should turn on sequentially. This confirms the module's chip is functioning correctly.
  2. Battery Voltage Verification: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the battery you intend to use. Ensure the battery voltage is within the range of 3.0V to 4.2V. Batteries outside this range may be faulty or incompatible with the module.
  3. Wiring Preparation: After confirming the battery is in good condition, take precautions against electrostatic discharge. Prepare thick wires for welding. Pay critical attention to connecting the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals correctly; incorrect polarity will damage the module.
  4. Charging Input Connection:
    • Type-C Input: Connect a charging head via the Type-C interface on the module.
    • 5V Input (Welding Pads): Alternatively, connect a 5V power source to the designated input pads marked in blue on the module (refer to diagrams).

Note on Input Current: The input current for the Type-C port should be higher than that for the welding input interface. The Type-C port can charge the battery terminal at 3A, while the welding input interface supports a maximum of 2A for battery terminal charging.

  5. Understanding C Port Output Protocol: For single Type-C port modules, output is only enabled when an electrical device (load) is detected. The module identifies a connected device by detecting the CC line level (e.g., a 5.1k resistor pull-down via the CC line). Pressing the key or other methods cannot force output if no load is detected. The key function is masked until a load is connected, after which it is restored.

5. Operation

  • Power On/Off: Double-click the switch key to turn off the output. Single-click the switch key to turn on the output.
  • Battery Level Indicator: The 4 LED lights display the current battery charge level.
  • Automatic Device Detection: The module automatically detects when a phone or other compatible device is plugged in or unplugged.
  • Intelligent Load Recognition: The module intelligently identifies the connected load and enters an automatic standby mode when idle.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the module clean and free from dust and moisture.
  • Avoid exposing the module to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.
  • Do not attempt to modify the module unless you have advanced electronics knowledge, as this may void any implied warranty and cause damage.

7. Troubleshooting and Important Notes

  • Battery Connection: Batteries must ONLY be connected in parallel. Connecting batteries in series will cause severe damage to the motherboard.
  • External Battery Wiring: Wires connecting to the external battery must be capable of handling currents exceeding 6A. Use at least 0.9 square millimeter copper wire or 1.5 square millimeter ordinary wire. Using thinner wires poses a safety hazard due to high current at the battery terminal.
  • Internal Protection Chip: The module has a built-in protection chip. An external battery protection board is generally not required. If an external protection board is used, ensure it can pass a current of more than 6A. Otherwise, it is recommended to remove it and connect the battery cell directly to the module to avoid protection triggering at high output power.
  • Testing with Alligator Clips: Do not use alligator clips for charging mobile phones during testing. For reliable and safe operation, especially for charging, connections must be soldered.
  • Compatible Battery Types: This module is designed for 3.7V/4.2V 18650, polymer, or ternary lithium batteries. Multiple 18650 cells can be connected in parallel. Do NOT use iron lithium, disposable dry, nickel-hydrogen, lead-acid, or nickel-cadmium batteries. Batteries cannot be connected in series.
  • Heat Generation: It is normal for power supply modules to generate some heat during operation. This indicates proper current regulation. If a module does not generate heat, it may not be limiting current effectively.
  • Current Interpretation: The maximum 3A charging current refers to the current at the battery terminal, not the input current. Due to voltage conversion, the 5V input current will be less than the battery terminal current. The 3.1A discharge current is the maximum possible, not a constant current; actual discharge depends on the connected load.

8. User Tips

  • Always double-check battery voltage (3.0-4.2V) before connecting to prevent damage.
  • For projects requiring external USB output, ensure you purchase the C+U port variant of the module.
  • When making permanent connections, soldering is highly recommended over temporary clips for stability and safety.
  • If experiencing issues, review your wiring carefully, especially battery polarity and wire gauge.
