4. Setup
4.1 Charging the Device
- Locate the Type-C charging port on the device.
- Connect the provided Type-C USB cable to the device and a suitable USB power adapter (not included).
- The battery indicator on the LCD screen will show charging status. Charge until the battery icon indicates full charge.
4.2 Initial Calibration
For accurate detection, the device needs to be calibrated before each use or when moving to a new scanning area.
- Place the device flat against the wall surface where you intend to scan. Ensure there are no objects, moisture, or other interference in the immediate area.
- Press and hold the Power/Scan button. The device will perform an automatic calibration.
- Wait for the calibration process to complete (usually indicated by a stable display and a beep).
- Once calibrated, you can begin scanning.
5. Operating Instructions
The WD-01 SH201 features multiple detection modes for different materials. Always calibrate the device before scanning.
5.1 Understanding the Display and Controls

- Power Display: Shows current battery level.
- Current Detection Mode: Indicates the active scanning mode (Wood, Metal, AC).
- Probe Signal Strength: Bars indicate the proximity to the detected object.
- Distance from Measured Object to Detection Center: Visual representation of the object's location relative to the device's center.
- Indicator Light: Changes color based on detection (Green: no target; Yellow/Red: target detected, proximity indicated).
- Depth Display: Shows the estimated depth of the detected object.
- Metal/Cable Detection Icon: Illuminates when metal or AC wires are detected.
- Wooden Fence Detection Icon: Illuminates when wood studs are detected.
- Scan Button: Initiates scanning.
- Mode Switch Button: Toggles between different detection modes.
- Marking Point: A physical indentation for precise marking of detected object centers.
5.2 Selecting a Detection Mode
Press the Mode Switch Button to cycle through the available detection modes:
- Wood Detection (Stud Scan): For locating wooden studs and beams.
- Metal Detection: For locating magnetic and non-magnetic metals, including pipes and rebars.
- AC Wire Detection: For detecting live AC electrical wires.

5.3 Performing a Scan
- Calibrate: Place the device flat against the wall and press the Power/Scan button to calibrate.
- Select Mode: Choose the appropriate detection mode using the Mode Switch Button.
- Scan: Slowly slide the device horizontally across the surface. Keep it flat against the wall.
- Interpret Results:
- The LCD screen will display the signal strength, estimated depth, and direction to the object.
- The indicator light will change from green to yellow or red as you approach a target.
- A continuous beep indicates the center of the detected object.
- Mark: Once the center of an object is identified, use the marking point on the device to precisely mark the location on the wall.

5.4 Video Demonstration
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided storage bag for protection.
- Battery Care: Recharge the battery regularly, even if the device is not in frequent use, to maintain battery health. Avoid fully discharging the battery for extended periods.
- Avoid Moisture: Do not expose the device to water or high humidity.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Inaccurate Readings / False Positives
- Recalibrate: Always calibrate the device on a clear section of the wall before scanning.
- Surface Conditions: Ensure the wall surface is dry and free from excessive dust or debris. High moisture content in walls can affect accuracy.
- Movement Speed: Scan slowly and steadily. Moving too quickly can lead to missed detections or inaccurate readings.
- Interference: Keep other electronic devices or strong magnetic fields away from the scanner during operation.
7.2 Device Not Powering On
- Check Battery: Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. Connect the device to a Type-C charger and allow it to charge for some time.
- Power Button: Press and hold the Power/Scan button firmly for a few seconds.
7.3 No Detection in AC Mode
- Live Wires Only: The AC mode is designed to detect live, unshielded AC wires. It may not detect non-live wires or wires that are heavily shielded.
- Power On: Ensure the electrical circuit is active and powered on for live wire detection.
8. User Tips
- Practice First: Before using on a critical project, practice on a known wall section or a piece of drywall with known studs and wires to get familiar with the device's feedback.
- Scan in Multiple Directions: For best accuracy, scan the area horizontally and then vertically. This can help confirm the edges and center of objects.
- Mark Clearly: Use a pencil to lightly mark the edges and center of detected objects. This helps visualize the hidden structure.
- Avoid Wet Surfaces: Moisture can interfere with detection. Ensure the scanning surface is dry.
- Patience is Key: Move the scanner slowly and steadily. Rushing the scan can lead to missed detections.
