1. Overview

The SmartGen HGM93XXMPU(CAN) series genset controllers are designed for automation and monitoring of single generator units. They facilitate automatic start/stop, data measurement, alarm protection, and "three remote" functions (remote control, remote measuring, and remote communication). These controllers feature a large Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with a user-friendly interface available in multiple languages, ensuring easy and reliable operation.

Utilizing 32-bit micro-processor technology, the HGM93XXMPU(CAN) series offers precise parameter measurement, fixed value adjustment, time setting, and threshold adjustment. Most parameters can be configured directly from the front panel, while all parameters can be set, adjusted, and monitored via a PC using the USB port or RS485 port. Their compact structure, simple connections, and high reliability make them suitable for a wide range of automatic genset control systems.

The HGM9310MPU(CAN) model is intended for single automation systems, enabling auto start/stop via remote signals. The HGM9320MPU(CAN) model includes all HGM9310MPU(CAN) functionalities, plus Automatic Mains Failure (AMF) capabilities, making it ideal for systems involving both mains and generator power.

    • SMS Function: When genset is alarming, controller can send short messages via SMS automatically to max. 5 telephone numbers. Besides, generator status can be controlled and checked using SMS (GSM port is needed).
    • CANBUS Port: Can communicate with J1939 genset. Not only can you monitor frequently-used data (such as water temperature, oil pressure, speed, fuel consumption and so on) of ECU machine, but also control start, stop, raising speed and speed droop via CANBUS port (CAN BUS port is needed).
  • Versatile Power System Compatibility: Suitable for 3-phase 4-wire, 3-phase 3-wire, single phase 2-wire, and 2-phase 3-wire systems with voltage 120/240V and frequency 50/60Hz.
  • Comprehensive Data Monitoring: Collects and shows AC 3-phase voltage, current, power parameter and frequency of generator; Collects and shows DC voltage, current, and power of generator.

4.1 Panel Cutout and Dimensions

The case dimension of the controller is 237mm x 172mm x 45mm. The recommended panel cutout is 214mm x 160mm. Ensure sufficient space for ventilation and access to wiring terminals.

Note: Fuse F1: min. 2A, max. 20A. Fuse F2: max. 32A. Users should select suitable fuse depending on practical application.

  • Stop Mode: Press the STOP button to stop the genset.
  • Auto Mode: Press the AUTO button. In this mode, the controller will automatically start or stop the genset based on remote signals or mains status (for HGM9320 models).
  • Manual Mode: Press the MANUAL button. In this mode, the genset can be started or stopped manually using the START and STOP buttons.
  • Start: Press the START button to initiate genset start sequence in Manual mode.
  • Alarm Mute: Press the ALARM MUTE button to silence active alarms.

5.3 Navigation and Parameter Setting

  • Use the Up, Down, Left, Right arrow buttons to navigate through menus and adjust parameter values.
  • Press Enter to confirm selections or enter sub-menus.
  • Press Esc to exit a menu or cancel an operation.
  • Parameters can also be set and monitored via PC using the USB port and dedicated software, or remotely via the RS485 port.
