7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your W218 water quality monitor:

  • Electrode Cleaning: Always clean the electrodes with distilled water before and after each use. Gently wipe with filter paper to dry.
  • Protective Caps: Ensure protective caps are placed back on the electrodes when not in use to prevent damage and keep them moist (if applicable for specific probes).
  • Recalibration: The electrodes must be re-calibrated regularly, especially if the device has not been used for a long time or if high accuracy is required for critical measurements.
  • Storage: Store the device and probes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No WiFi Connection / App Issues:
    • Ensure your mobile device and the W218 monitor are connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.
    • Verify the WiFi password entered in the Tuya Smart app is correct.
    • Long press the 'MODE' button on the meter to re-enter pairing mode and allow the app to discover the device again.
    • Check for any app updates or device firmware updates.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Perform a full calibration for the affected parameter (pH, EC, ORP) using fresh standard buffer solutions.
    • Ensure electrodes are clean and free from debris or air bubbles.
    • Check if the electrodes are properly immersed in the sample.
    • Verify the temperature compensation is correctly applied or the temperature probe is functioning.

9. User Tips

  • App Download: The Tuya Smart app is generally free to download and use. There are no typical fees associated with its basic functionality.
  • Regular Calibration: For consistent and accurate results, especially in critical applications like hydroponics or aquariums, perform calibrations frequently (e.g., weekly or bi-weekly) or whenever you suspect readings are off.
  • Electrode Care: Always store electrodes with their protective caps on and, if specified for a particular probe type (like pH), ensure the cap contains a storage solution to keep the sensor hydrated.
  • Probe Replacement: Over time, electrodes may degrade and require replacement. If calibration fails repeatedly or readings remain unstable, consider replacing the specific probe. Replacement probes can typically be sourced from the original seller or specialized scientific supply stores.
