4. Setup Instructions
4.1 Charging the Device
- Connect the provided USB charging cable to the Micro USB charging port on the KY unit.
- Plug the other end of the USB cable into a standard USB charger (e.g., phone charger, computer USB port).
- The indicator light will show charging status (refer to LED indicator section in the full manual for details).
- Charge the device fully before first use.
4.2 Mounting the KY Unit
- Choose a suitable location on the side of your helmet, typically on the left side.
- Attach the mounting clip to the helmet shell. Ensure it is securely fastened.
- Slide the KY Bluetooth unit onto the mounting clip until it clicks into place.
4.3 Connecting Microphone and Earphones
The KY unit comes with a 2-in-1 soft and hard mic earphone system, suitable for various helmet types.
- Insert the earphone plug into the Type C Headset Port on the KY unit.
- Position the earphones inside your helmet, aligning them with your ears. Use the provided Velcro pads to secure them.
- Choose the appropriate microphone:
- Hard Mic: Ideal for open-face and flip-up helmets. Attach it to the inside of the helmet near your mouth.
- Soft Mic: Suitable for full-face helmets. Position it discreetly inside the helmet lining near your mouth.
- Ensure all cables are neatly tucked away within the helmet lining to avoid obstruction and discomfort.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
- Power On: Press and hold the Power button (usually the main central button) for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a voice prompt and the indicator light flashes.
- Power Off: Press and hold the Power button for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a voice prompt and the indicator light turns off.
5.2 Bluetooth Pairing
The KY unit can pair with your smartphone or GPS device.
- With the KY unit powered off, press and hold the Power button for about 5-7 seconds until the indicator light flashes red and blue alternately, indicating pairing mode.
- On your smartphone or GPS device, enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
- Select 'FreedConn KY' from the list of found devices.
- Once paired, the indicator light on the KY unit will flash blue slowly, and you will hear a confirmation tone.
5.3 Music Playback
- After pairing with your smartphone, open your music player app.
- Play/Pause: Press the Power button once.
- Next Track: Short press the 'Forward' button.
- Previous Track: Short press the 'Backward' button.
- Volume Up/Down: Rotate the jog dial or use dedicated volume buttons (refer to your specific model's button layout).
5.4 Phone Call Management
- Answer Call: Press the Power button once when a call comes in.
- End Call: Press the Power button once during a call.
- Reject Call: Press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds when a call comes in.
- Redial Last Number: Double-press the Power button.
5.5 FM Radio
- Turn On/Off FM Radio: Press a dedicated FM button or a combination of buttons (refer to your specific model's button layout).
- Scan Stations: Short press the 'Forward' or 'Backward' button to scan for the next/previous station.
