4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to measure and straighten your derailleur hanger:

  1. Remove Derailleur: Detach the rear derailleur from the derailleur hanger.
  2. Attach Tool: Thread the HAG-5 tool directly into the derailleur hanger. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  3. Position Gauge: Extend the measuring rod until it lightly touches the wheel rim. Lock the measuring rod in this position using the knob on the sliding support.
  4. Measure Alignment: Rotate the tool and the wheel together to the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. At each position, observe if the measuring rod maintains the same distance to the wheel rim. Any deviation indicates a misaligned hanger.
  5. Straighten Hanger: If misalignment is detected, apply gentle pressure to the tool's arm (the main body) in the direction needed to bend the hanger back into alignment. Work slowly and incrementally.
  6. Re-measure: After applying pressure, re-measure the alignment at all four positions (3, 6, 9, 12 o'clock) to confirm the hanger is straight. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the measurements are consistent at all positions.
  7. Remove Tool: Once the hanger is aligned, unthread the HAG-5 tool and reattach your rear derailleur.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your ZTTO HAG-5 tool, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dirt, grease, or debris.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light coat of lubricant to the threaded parts and the sliding mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry, clean environment, preferably in its original packaging or a protective case, to prevent damage and corrosion.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the tool for any signs of wear, damage, or bending. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately to maintain accuracy.

6. Troubleshooting

The ZTTO HAG-5 is designed to address derailleur shifting issues caused by a bent derailleur hanger. If you experience persistent shifting problems after aligning the hanger, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the tool is threaded securely into the hanger and the measuring rod is firmly locked in place. Check that the wheel is properly seated in the dropouts.
  • Difficulty Straightening: Apply gradual, steady pressure. Avoid sudden, forceful movements that could damage the hanger or the tool.
  • Shifting Problems Persist: If the derailleur hanger is confirmed to be straight but shifting issues continue, the problem may lie with other components. Inspect the derailleur itself, shifter cables, chain, cassette, and chainrings for wear or damage.
