6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To power on: Press the 'MODE' button (WT816) or 'U/M' button (WT816A) for 2 seconds.
  • To power off: The device features automatic power-off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery. Manual power off can be achieved by pressing and holding the power button (if available) or by waiting for auto-off.

6.2 Mode Selection

Press the 'MODE' button (WT816) or 'U/M' button (WT816A) to cycle through different measurement modes:

  • Current Air Velocity: Displays the real-time wind speed.
  • Maximum Air Velocity (MAX): Shows the highest wind speed recorded since power-on.
  • Average Air Velocity (AVG): Displays the average wind speed recorded since power-on.

6.3 Unit Selection

Press the 'SET' button (WT816) or 'V/T' button (WT816A) to change the units of measurement:

  • Air Velocity Units: m/s (meters per second), Km/h (kilometers per hour), ft/min (feet per minute), Knots, mph (miles per hour).
  • Temperature Units: °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit).

6.4 Backlight

The LCD display features a backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The backlight typically activates automatically when a button is pressed and turns off after a short period of inactivity.

6.5 Wind Chill Indication

When the ambient temperature drops below 0°C (32°F), a snowflake icon will appear on the display, indicating wind chill. This feature helps assess the perceived temperature due to wind.

9. Maintenance

  • Clean the device regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Keep the wind wheel free from dust and debris to ensure accurate measurements.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Store the anemometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Replace the battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display.

10. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Check if the battery is installed correctly and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if necessary.
  • Inaccurate readings: Ensure the wind wheel is spinning freely and is not obstructed. Clean the wind wheel if there is any debris. Make sure the thermal probe is clean.
  • Display is dim or flickering: This usually indicates a low battery. Replace the CR2032 battery.
  • No wind speed reading: Ensure the device is held in the path of the airflow and the wind wheel is rotating.

11. User Tips

  • For best accuracy, hold the anemometer vertically with the wind wheel facing directly into the airflow.
  • Avoid touching the thermal probe during temperature measurements as body heat can affect readings.
  • The protective cover can be used to shield the wind wheel when not in use, extending its lifespan.
  • When measuring wind speed in a specific area, take multiple readings and use the average mode for a more representative value.
