4. Setup and Connection
To begin using your ANCEL HD601 scanner, follow these steps to connect it to your vehicle:
- Locate the diagnostic port on your heavy-duty truck. This is typically a 6-pin, 9-pin, or standard OBDII (16-pin) connector.
- Select the appropriate diagnostic cable from the package (6/9 pin cable or the integrated OBDII connector).
- Connect the scanner's cable to the vehicle's diagnostic port. Ensure a secure connection.
- Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (engine can be off or running, depending on the diagnostic task).
- The scanner will power on automatically. If not, check the connection and vehicle ignition.

5. Operating the Scanner
The ANCEL HD601 features a user-friendly interface with dedicated buttons for navigation and function selection.

5.1. Menu Navigation
Use the directional arrow buttons (▲, ▼, ◀, ▶) to navigate through menu options. Press the O (Enter) button to confirm a selection, and the ↩ (Return) button to go back to the previous screen.

5.2. HD OBD Diagnostics
From the main menu, select "HD OBD" to access diagnostic functions for diesel 6/9 OBD vehicles. This menu typically includes:
- Fast Scan: Performs a quick scan of the vehicle's systems.
- Complete Scan: Conducts a thorough scan (approx. 60 seconds).
- Vehicle Information: Displays VIN, calibration IDs, and other vehicle details.
- J1939 Protocol / J1708/J1587 Protocol: Specific protocol diagnostics.
- SAE J2012 DTC Display: Displays DTCs according to SAE J2012 standards.
5.3. WWH-OBD Diagnostics
Select "WWH-OBD" for diagnostics on vehicles complying with ISO 27145-4 and other harmonized protocols. This section includes:
- Generic OBDII and EOBDII: Standardized diagnostic functions.
- DTC Lookup: Provides definitions for retrieved trouble codes.
5.4. Reading and Clearing Fault Codes
To read fault codes:
- Navigate to the "Information" menu under either HD OBD or WWH-OBD.
- Select "Read Current Codes" or "Read History Codes". The scanner will display any detected fault codes.
To clear fault codes:
- From the "Information" menu, select "Clear Current Codes" or "Clear History Codes".
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Ensure the ignition is ON and the engine is stopped. Confirm to proceed.
- Note: Clearing codes will erase DTCs and Freeze Frame data.
5.5. Live Data Analysis
The Live Data function allows you to monitor real-time sensor readings and operational parameters.
- From the "Information" menu, select "Live Data".
- Choose the specific parameters you wish to monitor (e.g., Accelerator Pedal Position, Engine Gas Flow Rate).
- The data will be displayed, often with options to view in graph format for easier analysis.

6. Software Update
The ANCEL HD601 supports lifetime free software updates to ensure compatibility with new vehicle models and diagnostic protocols. Follow these steps to update your device:
- Download the upgrade program from the official ANCEL website (www.anceltech.com) to a Windows 10 computer.
- Connect the HD601 scanner to your Windows 10 computer via a mini USB cable.
- On the scanner, navigate to the "ABOUT" menu and select "Update Mode". The scanner will enter update mode.
- Launch the update program on your Windows 10 computer and select the appropriate communication port.
- Click the "Start Upgrade" button within the software to initiate the update process.
- Once the upgrade is complete, a confirmation message will appear on the screen. You can verify the new version number in the "ABOUT / Tool Information" menu on your scanner.

6.1. Troubleshooting Update Issues
If the update process is interrupted or the system crashes, you can re-enter update mode by following these steps:
- Disconnect the USB cable from the scanner.
- While holding down the O (Enter) key, reconnect the scanner to the Windows 10 computer via the mini USB cable.
- Release the O (Enter) key when three indicator lights on the scanner illuminate. The scanner will then re-enter update mode.
