4. Setup and Programming

There are two primary methods for programming your new remote control, depending on whether you have an existing working remote.

Method A: Factory Setting (If you don't have an original Hormann remote)

This method involves programming the new remote directly with your receiver unit.

  1. Locate the 'learn' button on your garage door or gate receiver unit.
  2. Press and hold the 'learn' button on the receiver for 2-3 seconds.
  3. While the receiver is in learning mode, press any button on your new remote control that you wish to program. The receiver should acknowledge the new remote (e.g., by flashing an LED or making a sound).

Method B: Face-to-Face Copy (If you have a working original Hormann remote)

This method allows you to clone the code directly from your existing remote to the new one.

Step 1: Clear the Code from the Duplicator

  1. Press and hold Button 1 and Button 2 simultaneously until the LED on the duplicator flashes quickly (3 times).
  2. Release Button 2 (keep Button 1 pressed).
  3. While still holding Button 1, press Button 2 three times slowly. The LED will flash quickly.
  4. Release both buttons. The code is now cleared. To verify, press any button; the LED should not flash.

Step 2: Copy Code from Original Transmitter

  1. Place the duplicator and your original Hormann remote control side-by-side, as close as possible.
  2. Press and hold Button 1 on your original Hormann remote.
  3. Simultaneously, press and hold Button 1 on the duplicator.
  4. Continue holding both buttons until the duplicator's LED flashes rapidly.
  5. Release both buttons. The code for Button 1 is now copied.
  6. Repeat this process for any other buttons (Button 2, Button 3, Button 4) you wish to copy from your original remote.

Note: The programming process typically takes about fifteen seconds per button.

5. Operating Instructions

Once your remote control is successfully programmed, operating your garage door or gate is straightforward:

  • Simply press the corresponding button on your remote control that you have programmed to activate your garage door or gate opener.
  • Ensure you are within the effective wireless transmission distance (20-150 meters in open space) for reliable operation.

6. Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The remote control uses a 12V 23A or CR2032 battery. If the remote's LED does not light up or the transmission range decreases significantly, it may be time to replace the battery.

  1. Carefully open the remote control casing.
  2. Remove the old battery.
  3. Insert a new 12V 23A or CR2032 battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the remote control casing securely.

General Care

  • Keep the remote control dry and away from moisture.
  • Avoid exposing the remote to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Clean the remote with a soft, dry cloth if necessary. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • Avoid dropping the remote control or subjecting it to strong impacts.

7. Troubleshooting

Remote Not Working After Programming

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure your original Hormann remote is an 868MHz blue button model and not from the incompatible BS (BISecur) series.
  • Verify Programming Steps: Double-check that all steps for clearing and copying the code were followed precisely. Refer to Section 4.
  • Battery Check: Confirm the battery is correctly inserted and has sufficient power. Replace if necessary.
  • Reprogram: Attempt the programming process again, ensuring the duplicator and original remote are very close during the copying phase.

Reduced Operating Range

  • Battery Level: A weak battery can reduce the remote's range. Replace the battery if needed.
  • Obstructions: Ensure there are no significant physical obstructions (e.g., thick walls, metal structures) between the remote and the receiver.
  • Interference: Other electronic devices operating on similar frequencies might cause interference.

8. User Tips

  • Confirm Frequency: Always confirm the frequency (868MHz) and button color (blue) of your original Hormann remote to ensure compatibility before purchasing or programming.
  • Proximity for Cloning: During the face-to-face cloning process, keep the new remote and the original remote as close as possible for optimal signal transfer.
  • Test All Buttons: After programming, test each copied button multiple times to ensure reliable operation.

9. Warranty and Support

Your Hormann replacement remote control comes with the following assurances:

  • Warranty: A 1-year warranty is provided from the date of purchase.
  • Returns: You may return the product within 7 days if there are any quality problems.
