2. Setup Instructions

The ALACRITY MJ-6709 series barcode scanners are designed for simple plug-and-play operation, requiring no driver installation or additional software.

2.1 Wired Models (MJ-6709-L, MJ-6709-CCD, MJ-6709-2D)

  1. Connect the scanner's USB cable directly to an available USB port on your computer or host device.
  2. The scanner will automatically be recognized by your operating system (Windows, Android, Mac, Linux).
  3. A beep sound and/or LED light indicator will confirm successful connection and readiness for scanning.

2.2 Wireless Models (MJ-2030, MJ-2080)

  1. Insert the 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle into an available USB port on your computer or host device.
  2. The system will automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for the dongle.
  3. Power on the barcode scanner. It will automatically pair with the USB dongle.
  4. A beep sound and/or LED light indicator on the scanner will confirm successful connection and readiness for scanning.
Compatibility with various operating systems
The scanner is compatible with Windows (XP, 7, 8, 10), Linux, and Mac operating systems.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Scanning

Point the scanner's light source at the barcode you wish to scan. Press the trigger button (if in trigger mode) or hold it steady (in continuous or auto-sense mode) until a successful scan is indicated by a beep and/or LED light.

3.2 Scanning Modes

  • Trigger Mode: The scanner activates the scan beam only when the trigger button is pressed.
  • Continuous Mode: The scan beam remains active continuously, allowing for rapid scanning without repeatedly pressing the trigger.
  • Auto-sense Mode (for CCD & CMOS models): The scanner automatically detects a barcode within its field of view and activates the scan beam without requiring a trigger press.

3.3 Barcode Programmable Features

The scanner supports advanced programming features to customize data output:

  • Prefix & Suffix Setting: Add custom characters before or after the scanned barcode data.
  • Insert/Delete Character: Modify the scanned data by inserting or deleting specific characters.

The scanner supports programmable features like prefix/suffix settings and character insertion/deletion.

3.4 Wireless Model Specifics (MJ-2030, MJ-2080)

  • Upload Instantly Mode: Scanned barcodes are immediately transmitted to the connected device.
  • Storage Mode: Scanned barcodes are stored in the scanner's internal 16MB memory (up to 50,000 codes) and can be uploaded later. To upload stored data, scan the 'Manual data upload' barcode (refer to the full programming guide for this specific barcode).

4. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the scanner's exterior. For the scan window, use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Durability: The laser life is rated up to 10,000 hours, and button life up to 3 million presses, ensuring long-term reliability.
  • Storage: Store the scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

5. Troubleshooting

Q: Some barcodes cannot be read, why?
A: This can be due to several reasons:
  • The barcode might be dirty, unclear, or damaged.
  • Digital barcodes displayed on phones, computers, or tablets can only be read by CCD or 2D scanners, not by laser barcode scanners.
  • The scanner's settings for a specific barcode type might be off by default. You may need to activate the specific barcode type. Refer to the programming guide or contact customer service for assistance if you don't know the exact type of barcode.
Q: Is there a way to add or remove an 'Enter' key for suffix?
A: Yes, you can refer to the Common Function Barcodes in the programming guide to reverse the setting or contact customer service for assistance.
Q: The data cannot be sent to my computer. Why?
A: Please ensure you have turned off the inventory mode (storage mode) if you are using a wireless scanner. In storage mode, the scanner stores scans internally instead of instantly transmitting them. You need to scan the 'Manual data upload' barcode to send the stored codes to your connected device.
Q: How to solve messy code problems encountered while using other foreign languages?
A: The default language is English. Please refer to the "Language Setting" chapter in the programming guide to change the setting.

7. User Tips

  • For scanning barcodes from digital screens (e.g., mobile phones, tablets), ensure you are using a CCD or 2D CMOS model scanner, as laser scanners cannot read these.
  • If you need to customize the output of your scanned data (e.g., add a prefix/suffix or modify characters), refer to the full programming guide for detailed instructions on using the programmable features.
  • When using wireless models, remember to switch between 'Upload Instantly Mode' and 'Storage Mode' as needed. If data isn't appearing on your device, check if the scanner is in 'Storage Mode' and upload the data manually.
