5. Setup Instructions

5.1 Wiring the Module

The WEL3005 module requires careful wiring to ensure proper operation and accurate measurements. Refer to the diagram below for correct connections.

Wiring diagram for WEL3005 Electronic Load Module
Figure 4: Wiring diagram. Small screen printing B+B- for measuring voltage, large screen printing B+B- for measuring current.
  • Power Supply: Connect a 6V-30V DC power source to the module's supply input.
  • Load Connection:
    • Connect the positive terminal of the device under test (e.g., battery) to the "B+" terminal for current measurement.
    • Connect the negative terminal of the device under test to the "B-" terminal for current measurement.
    • Ensure the voltage measurement leads are connected to the appropriate B+ and B- terminals for voltage sensing.
  • The module features input anti-reverse protection, but always double-check polarity before powering on.

5.2 Initial Power-Up

  • After wiring, turn on the module using the rotary encoder.
  • The color display will illuminate, showing current readings and status.
  • The fan will automatically start if the internal temperature exceeds 45°C.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Adjusting Discharge Current

  • Use the rotary encoder to continuously adjust the discharge current from 0A to 5A.
  • Rotate clockwise to increase current, counter-clockwise to decrease.
  • Observe the display for real-time current values.

6.2 Monitoring Parameters

The color display shows the following parameters:

  • Voltage (U)
  • Current (I)
  • Power (P)
  • Capacity (Ah)
  • Energy (Wh)
  • Resistance (R)
  • Temperature (T)

6.3 Protection Functions

The module is equipped with several protection features:

  • Undervoltage Protection: Activates if the voltage drops below the set threshold (1.5-30V).
  • Over Power Protection: Engages if the discharge power exceeds the set limit (1-30W).
  • Overheat Protection: The fan starts at 45°C, and protection activates if the temperature reaches 75°C.

6.4 Setting Menu (SET Button)

Press the SET button to enter the configuration menu. Use the rotary encoder to navigate and adjust settings such as undervoltage limits and overpower limits. Press SET again to confirm changes or exit the menu.

6.5 Internal Resistance Measurement (LOCK Button)

Use the LOCK button for specific internal resistance measurement functions. Refer to the on-screen prompts or detailed operational guides for this advanced feature.

7. Maintenance

  • Keep the module clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure the cooling fan is not obstructed to maintain efficient heat dissipation.
  • Store the device in a dry environment within the specified working temperature range when not in use.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the module to strong impacts.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Module does not power on. Incorrect power supply voltage or polarity; loose connection. Verify power supply is 6V-30V and correctly connected. Check all wiring.
No current discharge. Load not connected correctly; current setting is 0A; undervoltage/overpower protection active. Check load wiring. Increase current setting. Check for protection warnings on display.
Module overheats. Fan obstructed; operating in high ambient temperature; exceeding 30W discharge power. Ensure fan is clear. Operate in a cooler environment. Reduce discharge power.
Inaccurate readings. Loose connections; faulty test leads; external interference. Check all connections. Use high-quality test leads. Minimize electrical interference.

9. User Tips

  • When testing batteries, ensure the battery type and capacity are suitable for the discharge current and power settings to avoid damage.
  • For precise measurements, allow the module to stabilize for a few minutes after power-on before taking readings.
  • The color display provides a comprehensive overview; familiarize yourself with all displayed parameters for effective monitoring.
  • Consider using external cooling if operating at the upper limits of power or temperature for extended periods.
