4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the laser engraving machine from its standard wooden case. Inspect all components for any signs of damage during transit. Report any damage immediately to the carrier and seller.

4.3 Placement

Place the machine on a stable, level surface in a well-ventilated area. Ensure sufficient space around the machine for operation, maintenance, and material handling. The machine's legs can be separated from the main body if needed for specific setups.

4.4 Connections

  1. Power Connection: Connect the power cable to the machine and a suitable 220V power outlet. Ensure proper grounding using the provided grounding cable.
  2. USB Connection: Connect the machine to your computer using the USB cable for initial setup and design file transfer.
  3. Cooling System: Connect the water pump to the machine's cooling system. Ensure the water reservoir is filled with distilled water and the pump is operating correctly to maintain the laser tube temperature below 35°C.
  4. Air Assist: Connect the air pump to the air assist inlet on the laser head. This helps remove debris and combustible gases during operation.
  5. Exhaust System: Connect the air exhaust fan and smoke pipe to the machine's exhaust port. Direct the exhaust outdoors or to a proper filtration system to remove fumes and smoke.

4.5 Software Installation

Install the provided laser engraving software (Auto Laser, RDdraw) from the U disk or CD onto your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions. The machine also supports CorelDraw and Auto CAD.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On

Ensure all connections (power, cooling, air assist, exhaust) are secure. Turn on the main power switch. The digital LCD controller will power on.

5.2 Material Placement

Open the machine lid. Place your non-metallic material (e.g., wood, acrylic, leather) onto the appropriate work bed (honeycomb for cutting, knife for engraving). Ensure the material is flat and secure.

5.3 Focusing the Laser

Utilize the rapid autofocusing feature. The built-in red light positioning system allows you to quickly correct the laser's focus directly from the Ruida control panel without manual adjustment. Follow the on-screen prompts or refer to the software manual for specific steps.

5.4 Using the Ruida Controller

The Ruida controller provides an intuitive interface for managing your laser operations. You can adjust settings such as laser power, engraving/cutting speed, and job dimensions. The color screen offers a user-friendly experience.

5.5 Loading Design Files

Design files (HPGL, BMP, GIF, JPG, JPEG, DXF, DST, AI) can be loaded into the machine via a USB memory stick or directly from your computer using the USB cable. The machine will read files from the memory stick, allowing operation without a constantly connected PC.

5.6 Starting a Job

Once the material is placed, focus is set, and the design file is loaded, you can initiate the engraving or cutting process from the controller. The safety warning light will indicate laser emission.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cooling System Maintenance

Regularly check the water level in the cooling system and ensure the water pump is functioning correctly. The water temperature must be maintained below 35°C to prevent damage to the CO2 laser tube. Replace the water periodically to prevent algae growth and maintain cooling efficiency.

6.2 Optics Cleaning

The machine contains three reflective mirrors and one focusing lens. These optics must be kept clean to ensure optimal laser performance. Use specialized lens cleaning solution and wipes to gently clean the optics. Avoid touching the surfaces with bare hands.

6.3 General Cleaning

Keep the work area and the interior of the machine clean from dust and debris. Regularly clean the honeycomb and knife beds. Ensure the air assist nozzle is clear of blockages.

6.4 Laser Tube Inspection

Periodically inspect the CO2 laser tube for any signs of damage or wear. Ensure the connections for the cooling lines are secure and free from leaks.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your laser engraving machine, please follow these general troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Check all power connections, ensure the main switch is on, and verify the power outlet is functional.
  • Laser Not Firing: Ensure the cooling system is running and the water temperature is within the acceptable range. Check laser tube connections and power supply. Verify that the safety interlocks (e.g., lid closed) are engaged.
  • Poor Engraving/Cutting Quality: Re-check the laser focus. Clean the optics (mirrors and lens). Adjust laser power and speed settings in the software. Ensure the material is flat and properly secured.
  • Machine Not Responding: Check the USB connection to the computer. Restart the software and the machine.
  • Excessive Smoke/Fumes: Ensure the air assist is active and the exhaust fan is properly connected and venting outdoors or to a filtration system. Check for blockages in the smoke pipe.
