1. Introduction
The JUNCTEK JDS8000 series function arbitrary signal generator is a versatile instrument capable of generating various waveforms including sine, square, triangle, pulse, and arbitrary waveforms. It features a frequency range up to 80MHz and includes functions such as modulation, frequency sweep, measurement, and voltage control. The device displays output signal, amplitude, phase, duty cycle, and frequency simultaneously on its 2.8-inch high-resolution color LCD screen. Designed for education, research and development, production, and testing, it offers excellent amplitude-frequency characteristics, multi-functionality, high performance, and portability.
The JDS8000 series signal generator can generate sine wave, square wave, triangle wave, pulse wave, arbitrary wave and other waveforms. The frequency can reach up to 80MHz, and it has functions such as modulation, frequency sweep, measurement and voltage control, and can display the output signal, amplitude, phase, duty and frequency at the same time. The instrument has excellent amplitude-frequency characteristics, multi-function, high performance, cost-effective, portable and other characteristics, providing a new choice for education, research and development, production, testing and other industries.

2. Safety Requirements
General Safety Summary
Please review the following safety precautions carefully before putting the instrument into operation to avoid personal injury or damage to the instrument and any connected products. To prevent potential hazards, follow the instructions specified in this manual for proper instrument use.
Handle with Caution
Please handle with care during transportation to avoid damage to keys, knobs, interfaces, and other parts on the panels.
Notices
- Make sure that the input power is correct.
- The shell of the instrument is fragile and easy to corrode. Do not hit or expose to chemicals to avoid corrosion.
- Working temperature: -10℃ to 50℃, storage temperature: -20℃ to 70℃. Keep the instrument in a dry environment.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the instrument, as this will void the warranty. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repairs must be made through designated repair outlets or by sending the unit back to the factory.
- Avoid placing unsafe items such as lighted candles, cups with water, and corrosive chemicals on the surface of the instrument to avoid damage.
- The display screen is a fragile device; avoid touching or bumping it. Keep children from playing with the instrument. When the LCD surface is dirty, wipe it carefully with a soft cloth.
- Do not move the instrument violently to avoid causing irreparable damage to the internal circuit. If the instrument does not work properly, contact the supplier.
Use Proper Over-voltage Protection
Ensure that no over-voltage (such as that caused by lightning) can reach the product. Otherwise, the operator might be exposed to the danger of an electric shock.
Do Not Operate Without Covers
Do not operate the instrument with covers or panels removed.
Do Not Insert Anything Into the Air Outlet
Do not insert anything into the air outlet to avoid damage to the instrument.
Avoid Circuit or Wire Exposure
Do not touch exposed junctions and components when the unit is powered on.
Do Not Operate With Suspected Failures
If you suspect any damage, have the instrument inspected by JUNCTEK authorized personnel before further operations. Any maintenance, adjustment, or replacement, especially to circuits or accessories, must be performed by JUNCTEK authorized personnel.
Provide Adequate Ventilation
Inadequate ventilation may cause an increase in temperature, which could damage the instrument. Keep the instrument well ventilated and inspect the air outlet regularly.
Do Not Operate in Wet Conditions
To avoid short circuit inside the instrument or electric shock, never operate the instrument in a humid environment.
Do Not Operate in an Explosive Atmosphere
To avoid personal injuries or damage to the instrument, never operate the instrument in an explosive atmosphere.
Keep Instrument Surfaces Clean and Dry
To avoid dust or moisture from affecting performance, keep the surfaces of the instrument clean and dry.
Prevent Electrostatic Impact
Operate the instrument in an electrostatic discharge protective environment to avoid damage induced by static discharges. Always ground both the internal and external conductors of cables to release static before making connections.
3. Setup
Inspection
When you receive your new JDS8000 series arbitrary function signal generator, it is recommended to inspect the instrument according to the following steps:
Inspect the Packaging
If the packaging has been damaged, do not dispose of the damaged packaging or cushioning materials until the shipment has been checked for completeness and has passed both electrical and mechanical tests. The consigner or carrier shall be liable for damage to the instrument resulting from shipment. We are not responsible for free maintenance/rework or replacement of the instrument.
Check the Contents
Please check the contents according to the packing list below. If the instruments are damaged or incomplete, please contact your JUNCTEK sales representative.

Inspect the Instrument
In case of any mechanical damage, missing parts, or failure in passing the electrical and mechanical tests, contact your JUNCTEK sales representative.
Power On and Initial Configuration
Power Supply Methods
The JDS8080 can be powered in two ways:
- Using the provided AC power cord: Input voltage AC85-264V, 47-63Hz.
- Using a DC5V±0.5V 3A power adapter.
Power-on Procedure
After correctly connecting the power supply, press the power key on the front panel to turn on the generator. During startup, the instrument performs initialization and self-test. The default interface will then be displayed. If the instrument does not start normally, refer to the "Troubleshooting" section.
Setting the System Language
After entering the booting interface, you can press the corresponding soft key to select your desired system language. The instrument will remember your selection, so you won't need to select it again on subsequent power-ons.

Front Panel Overview
The front panel features a 2.8-inch color screen, various function soft keys, shortcut keys, a knob for adjustments, direction keys, and channel control keys. Input and output connectors are also prominently located.
- Power Switch: Used to turn the generator on or off.
- Channel Control Keypad (CH1/CH2): Controls the output for Channel 1 and Channel 2. Pressing the button enables/disables the channel output, indicated by the channel indicator light.
- OUT Button: Simultaneously controls the output of both CH1 and CH2.
- Signal Input Connectors (MOD, EXT):
- EXT.IN: Input signal voltage range 1Vpp~20Vpp.
- MOD.IN: Modulation input connector, input signal voltage range 0Vpp~3Vpp.
- Signal Output Connectors (CH1, CH2): BNC connectors with 50Ω±10% nominal output impedance. Output waveforms according to current configuration when enabled.
- Arrow Keys: Used to move the cursor for parameter editing or delete values.
- Knob: Used to increase/decrease values, quickly switch waveforms, or navigate menus.
- Function Shortcut Keys (0-9, ., +/-): Numeric keys for setting parameters.
- LCD: 2.8-inch TFT color LCD display for menus and parameter settings.
- MEM Key: Displays and recalls stored parameters (M00-M99). Press SHIFT + MEM to save parameters.
- InBox Key: Opens a pop-up window for direct numerical input of parameters.
Rear Panel Overview
The rear panel provides various interfaces for power, communication, and synchronization.
- Sync Connectors: Allows synchronization with other units in the same series.
- Extended Interface (TTL Ext.): Serial port with TTL level for secondary development. Includes GPI (Digital signal input), GPO1/GPO2 (Digital signal output), RXD/TXD (Serial communication), +5V (VCC), and GND.
- USB Interface: Connects to a computer for remote control via PC software or programming.
- DC Power Socket: DC5V±0.5V 3A input.
- AC Power Socket: 85-264V, 47-63Hz input. Max input power 30W. Fuse: 250V, T3.15A.
- Power Switch: Main power switch for the unit.
- Cooling Holes: For heat dissipation.
- Chassis Ground: Connects to ground to prevent electric shock and ensure normal operation.
Software and APP Installation
PC Software Installation
The PC software allows for remote control and advanced waveform editing. To install:
- Download the PC software from the official link: http://68.168.132.244/jds8/Jds8enSetup2208a.exe
- Run the installer (JDS8000 Setup). Follow the on-screen prompts: Click NEXT four times, then INSTALL, then FINISH.
- After installation, connect the generator to your computer via USB.
- Open Device Manager on your PC to identify the assigned serial port (e.g., COM5).
- Launch the JDS8000 Series Control Program, select the corresponding serial port, and click "Connect". A successful connection will display the model and serial number.

Mobile APP Installation (Android)
The mobile APP allows for remote control via Bluetooth. It supports Android 5.0 and above systems.
- Download the Android APP from: http://68.168.132.244/APP/JDS8000.apk (If unable to download, contact customer service).
- During installation, grant location service permissions.
- Ensure the Bluetooth module is not plugged or unplugged while the device is powered on to avoid damage.
- After installation, open the APP and search for the corresponding Bluetooth device. Once connected, the APP will display "connected" and the machine model.
Mobile APP Installation (iOS)
For iOS devices, search for "jds8000 series signal generator" in the Apple App Store or use the link: https://apps.apple.com/cn/app/jds8000/id1640964381. The operation is similar to the Android APP.

4. Operation
Display Interface
The 2.8-inch TFT color LCD screen displays various parameters and menus. The main display shows frequency, amplitude, offset, duty cycle, and phase for both channels, along with the waveform type.
- Soft Key Menu Bar: Displays the operation menu for the currently selected function/interface.
- Current Channel Output Status: Indicates the selected channel (CH1/CH2) and its ON/OFF state.
- Waveform Display: Shows the current waveform in the main channel.
- Frequency: Parameter for setting the output frequency.
- Amplitude: Parameter for setting the output amplitude (Vpp).
- Offset: Parameter for setting the DC offset (V).
- Duty Cycle: Parameter for setting the duty cycle (%).
- Phase: Parameter for setting the phase difference (°).
Basic Waveform Output
The JDS8000 can output basic waveforms (Sine, Square, Triangle, Pulse) from one or both channels simultaneously. By default, dual channels output a sine waveform at 10kHz frequency and 5Vpp amplitude.

To Select the Output Channel
Press the CH1 or CH2 button to select the desired channel. The active channel's text will be white, and the inactive one gray. The menu bar font will change color (yellow for CH1, blue for CH2). The OUT button can control both CH1 and CH2 simultaneously.
To Select Waveforms
Press the WAVE key. The soft key menu bar will display waveform options. Use the knob or direction keys to select the desired waveform. Common waveforms (sine, square, pulse, ramp) are displayed on the right side of the screen for quick selection via soft keys.
To Set Frequency
Press the Freq soft key. Use arrow keys to move the cursor, the knob to adjust digits, or the InBox key for direct input. The knob can also switch frequency units (MHz, kHz, Hz, mHz, μHz).
To Set Amplitude
Press the Ampl soft key. Use arrow keys, the knob, or the InBox key for direct input. Amplitude range is limited by frequency (refer to specifications).
To Set Offset
Press the Offset soft key. Use arrow keys, the knob, or the InBox key for direct input. Offset affects amplitude range (refer to specifications).
To Set Duty Cycle
Press the Duty soft key. Applicable to pulse and bias sine waveforms. Use arrow keys, the knob, or the InBox key for direct input. Range: 0.01% to 99.99%.
To Set Phase
Press the Phase soft key. Use arrow keys, the knob, or the InBox key for direct input. Default phase difference is 0.00°. Ensure frequency synchronization of CH1 and CH2 in system settings before adjusting phase difference.
Observe the Output Waveform
Connect CH1 and CH2 of the JDS8000 to an oscilloscope using BNC cables (Q9-Q9 cable recommended for square waves) to observe the output waveform.
Loading and Saving Parameters
Press the MEM button briefly to load parameters (M00-M99). Press SHIFT + MEM to save parameters.
Modulation Mode Interface and Parameter Settings
The JDS8000 series generators can output modulated waveforms. Modulation is the process of processing a signal source and adding it to a carrier for channel transmission. Supported modulation types include AM, FM, PM, ASK, PSK, FSK, PWM, and Burst.

General Modulation Settings
- Select Carrier Waveforms: Carrier can be sine, square, sawtooth, or arbitrary (except DC). Select via the Shape soft key in the waveform interface.
- Select Source: Modulation source can be Internal (sine, square, triangle, ramp, arbitrary) or External (via MOD connector, 0-20kHz, -5V~+5V amplitude).
- Set Modulation Waveform Frequency and Carrier Frequency: Use Mod.F and Carr.F soft keys. Modulation frequency range: 0.001Hz to 1MHz (default 500Hz).
Specific Modulation Types
- AM (Amplitude Modulation): Amplitude of carrier changes according to transmission signal. Set modulation depth (0-200%) via Depth soft key.
- FM (Frequency Modulation): Carrier frequency changes according to modulating signal. Set frequency deviation via F.Dev soft key.
- PM (Phase Modulation): Carrier phase changes proportionally to modulating signal. Set phase deviation (0-359.99°, default 180°) via P.Dev soft key.
- ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying): Carrier amplitude controlled by baseband digital signal. Set polarity (positive/negative) via Polar soft key and ASK amplitude (0-200%, default 80%) via Ampl soft key.
- FSK (Frequency Shift Keying): Carrier frequency controlled by digital signal. Set polarity via PolarType soft key and hopping frequency via Hop.F soft key.
- PSK (Phase Shift Keying): Carrier phase used to represent information. Set polarity via Polar soft key and PSK phase (0-359.99°) via Phase soft key.
- PWM (Pulse Width Modulation): Digital adjustment of pulse width and cycle time. Set pulse width (0.020us-4s) via Width soft key and pulse period (0.02us-40s) via Period soft key.
- Burst: Output pulse trains (1-1048575 periods). Trigger modes: internal, external (AC/DC), manual. Set number of pulses via Num. soft key and idle mode via Idle soft key.
Sweep Mode Interface and Parameter Settings
The sweep mode allows for frequency, amplitude, and duty cycle sweeps.

- Sweep Channel: Select CH1 or CH2.
- Start/Stop Frequency/Amplitude/Duty Cycle: Define the sweep range.
- Sweep Time: Set the duration of the sweep (0.01S-640S).
- Sweep Direction: Choose from round-trip, increment, or decrement.
- Sweep Mode: Select linear or logarithmic.
- Turn On Sweep: Press the ON soft key to start the sweep.
Voltage Control Mode Parameter Settings (VCO)
The VCO function allows external analog voltage signals to control the frequency, amplitude, or duty cycle of the output waveform.

- Voltage Control Channel: Select CH1 or CH2.
- Voltage Control Function: Choose frequency control, amplitude control, or duty cycle control.
- Start/Stop Frequency/Amplitude/Duty Cycle: Define the control range.
- Minimum/Maximum Voltage Calibration: Calibrate the external input signal voltage range (0V-5V).
- Voltage Control Mode: Select linear or logarithmic.
- Turn On Voltage Control: Press the ON soft key to enable voltage control.
Measurement Mode Parameter Settings
The instrument can measure input signal parameters and count cycles.
- Measurement Function: Measures frequency (1Hz-100MHz), period, positive/negative pulse width, and duty cycle of input signals (2Vpp-20Vpp) via the Ext.IN interface.
- Coupling Settings: Switch between AC or DC coupling.
- Gate Time Setting: Set the measurement gate time (0.001s-10s, default 1s).
- Measurement Mode: Select low frequency (<2kHz) or high frequency (>2kHz).
- Counter Function: Calculates the number of periods of the input signal in real-time.
System Settings
Access system settings by pressing the SYS key.

- Clear Memory: Clears stored parameters.
- Sound Setting: Turns sound ON/OFF.
- Brightness Adjustment: Adjusts LCD brightness.
- Language Setting: Selects English or Chinese.
- Built-in Waveforms: Sets the number of built-in waves (00-21).
- Arbitrary Waveforms: Sets the number of arbitrary waves (01-99).
- Waveform Loading Mode: Selects Auto or Fast.
- System Information: Displays product model, serial number, hardware/firmware/FPGA versions.
- Waveform Synchronization: Synchronizes CH1 and CH2 parameters.
- Frequency/Amplitude/Offset/Duty Cycle Synchronization: Turns ON/OFF synchronization for these parameters.
- External Synchronization: Turns ON/OFF external synchronization.
- Restoring Factory Settings: Resets all settings to factory defaults.
- Auto Power On: Configures the instrument to output by default when powered on.
- CH1/CH2 Amplitude Fine-adjusting: Calibrates output amplitude for accuracy.
- Help Information: Rotate the knob or scan QR code for help.
5. Troubleshooting
The following lists possible faults and troubleshooting methods. If you cannot resolve an issue, please contact JUNCTEK and provide your equipment information (accessible via the SYS button).
If the power key is pressed, but the signal generator is still blank and there is no display:
- Check whether the power connector is connected properly.
- Check whether the power key is functioning.
- After the above inspections, restart the instrument.
- If the instrument still does not work, please contact JUNCTEK.
The screen is too dark to see clearly:
- Check whether the brightness setting of the LCD screen is appropriate.
- Press the SYS key to enter the system setting menu, then navigate to brightness and adjust the knob to set the LCD screen brightness to the appropriate state.
The settings are correct but no waveform output:
- Check whether the BNC cord is correctly connected to the corresponding CH1 or CH2 channel output connectors.
- Check the BNC cord for internal damage.
- Check that the BNC cord is securely connected to the instrument.
- Check whether the indicator above the signal output connectors CH1 or CH2 is lit.
- If it is not lit, press the corresponding key to make it lit.
- After completing the above inspections, then restart the instrument.
- If the instrument still does not work, please contact JUNCTEK.
