Compatibility
The SMG-012 remote control is 100% compatible with the following 868MHz remote control models. Please ensure your original remote's frequency and button color (for Hormann) match the requirements below.
Hormann 868MHz Models:
- HSM2 868, HSM4 868
- HS1 868, HS2 868, HS4 868
- HSE2 868, HSE4 868
- HSZ1 868, HSZ2 868
- HSP4 868, HSP4-c 868
- HSD2-A 868, HSD2-c 868
Important Note for Hormann: This remote is only compatible with Hormann 868MHz remotes that have BLUE buttons. It is NOT compatible with BS BiSecur versions.

Marantec 868MHz Models:
- Digital D382 868, Digital D384 868
- Digital D302 868, Digital D304 868
- Digital D313 868
- Digital D321 868, Digital D323 868
- Command 131 868
Important Note for Marantec: This remote is only compatible with Marantec 868MHz remotes. It is NOT compatible with 433MHz versions. 868MHz models typically have a two-tone color shell (back darker than front), while 433MHz models have a single-color shell.

Setup and Programming
Follow these steps to program your new SMG-012 remote control by copying the code from your original transmitter.
Step 1: Clear the History Code from the Duplicator
- Press and hold both the LOCK (Button A) and UNLOCK (Button B) buttons simultaneously until the LED flashes 3 times.
- Release Button B (while continuing to press Button A).
- Press Button B slowly for 3 times. The LED will flash rapidly.
- Release Button A. The code clearance is now complete. The remote is ready for programming.
This process ensures any previous programming on the duplicator is erased.
Step 2: Copy Code from Original Transmitter
- Place the SMG-012 duplicator and your original remote control as close to each other as possible.
- Press and hold a button on your original transmitter (e.g., Button A).
- While still holding the button on the original transmitter, press and hold the corresponding button on the SMG-012 duplicator (e.g., Button A).
- Continue holding both buttons until the LED on the duplicator flashes rapidly. This indicates successful code copying.
- Release both buttons.
- Repeat this process for any other buttons you wish to copy.
The cloning process typically takes about fifteen seconds per button.

Operating Your Remote Control
Once successfully programmed, your SMG-012 remote control operates identically to your original remote. Simply press the corresponding button to activate the desired function (e.g., open/close garage door, arm/disarm alarm).
Ensure you are within the wireless transmission distance (5-30 meters in open space) for optimal performance. Obstacles such as walls or other electronic devices may reduce the effective range.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement:
The remote control uses a standard button cell battery. If the remote's LED does not light up or flashes weakly when a button is pressed, the battery may need replacement. To replace the battery:
- Carefully open the remote control casing.
- Remove the old battery.
- Insert a new battery of the same type, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the remote control casing securely.
Cleaning:
Wipe the remote control with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the device.
Storage:
Store the remote control in a dry place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight, to prolong its lifespan.
Troubleshooting
- Remote not responding after programming:
- Ensure the history code was cleared correctly before programming (Step 1).
- Verify that the original remote and the duplicator were placed as close as possible during copying.
- Confirm that the LED on the duplicator flashed rapidly during Step 2, indicating successful copying.
- Check if the original remote is functioning correctly.
- Ensure the battery in the SMG-012 is not depleted.
- Re-attempt the programming process from Step 1.
- Limited range:
- Check the battery level.
- Ensure there are no significant obstacles between the remote and the receiver.
- Avoid using the remote near strong electromagnetic interference sources.
- Incompatible remote:
- Double-check the frequency of your original remote (must be 868MHz).
- For Hormann remotes, confirm the buttons are blue and it is not a BS BiSecur version.
- For Marantec remotes, verify it is an 868MHz model (typically two-tone shell).
- Refer to the "Compatibility" section for a detailed list of supported models.
User Tips
- Verify Compatibility Carefully: Before attempting to clone, always confirm that your existing remote control's frequency (868MHz) and model are listed as compatible. Pay special attention to specific details like button color for Hormann remotes (must be blue) and shell design for Marantec remotes (two-tone for 868MHz).
- Optimal Cloning Distance: For the most reliable cloning, place the original remote and the new SMG-012 remote as close as possible, ideally touching, during the copying process.
- Test After Cloning: After successfully cloning a button, always test it with your gate or garage door opener to ensure it functions correctly before relying on it.
