WARNING: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas only. It is NOT a smoke detector or a combustible gas detector. It will NOT detect smoke, fire, or other gases.

  • Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation.
  • Do not paint the alarm. Paint can clog the vents and interfere with the sensor's ability to detect CO.
  • Do not block the alarm's vents.
  • Test the alarm regularly as instructed in this manual.
  • This product operates independently and does not support connection to the Meross App or any other smart home applications (e.g., Apple HomeKit, Tuya Smart).
  • In case of an alarm, immediately move to fresh air, call emergency services, and do not re-enter the premises until it has been declared safe.

Figure 4: Installation Options (Wall-mounted or Freestanding)

The Meross CO Detector can be wall-mounted or placed freestanding on a flat surface.

  • Install at least one CO alarm on each level of your home, especially near sleeping areas.
  • Place the alarm at chest height or higher, as CO mixes with air.
  • Avoid placing the alarm:
    • In direct sunlight or near heat sources (e.g., ovens, furnaces, fireplaces).
    • In areas with high humidity (e.g., bathrooms).
    • Near vents, doors, or windows where air currents might prevent CO from reaching the sensor.
    • In dusty, dirty, or greasy areas.
    • Within 1.5 meters (5 feet) of fuel-burning appliances.

Wall Mounting:

  1. Choose a suitable location according to the placement guidelines.
  2. Mark the positions for mounting screws on the wall.
  3. Drill holes and insert wall plugs if necessary.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket (if provided, otherwise use the device's mounting holes) to the wall with screws.
  5. Attach the CO detector to the mounting bracket or directly to the screws, ensuring it is firmly in place.

6. Operating Instructions

Normal Operation:

Once batteries are installed, the detector will perform a self-test. During normal operation, the LCD screen will typically be off, and the green indicator light will flash once every 50 seconds. This minimal activity ensures the device does not disturb your daily life or sleep at night.

Figure 6: Test and Silence Button Functionality

  • To Test: Press and hold the 'TEST/SILENCE' button for a few seconds. The alarm will sound, and the red light will flash. Release the button to stop the test.

Alarm Condition:

When carbon monoxide is detected at dangerous levels, the alarm will sound with an 85dB siren, and the red indicator light will flash. The alarm volume will gradually increase to ensure you are alerted without being startled.

Mute Function:

  • To Silence: If the alarm is falsely triggered or you need to temporarily silence it after an event, briefly press the 'TEST/SILENCE' button. The alarm will be silenced for a period, after which it will resume monitoring.

7. Maintenance

  • Weekly Test: Perform a weekly test using the 'TEST/SILENCE' button to ensure the alarm is functioning correctly.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 2 AA alkaline batteries approximately every 3 years, or immediately when the yellow 'Low Battery' indicator light illuminates.
  • Cleaning: Dust the alarm regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents, as these can damage the sensor. Do not paint the alarm.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Alarm sounds without visible CO source False alarm, temporary CO spike, or actual low-level CO presence. Press the 'SILENCE' button. Ventilate the area. If the alarm persists, evacuate and call emergency services.
Yellow 'Low Battery' indicator is on Batteries are low and need replacement. Replace both AA alkaline batteries immediately.
Alarm does not respond to 'TEST' button Dead batteries, faulty unit, or incorrect button press. Ensure batteries are new and correctly installed. Press and hold the 'TEST' button firmly. If still unresponsive, replace the unit.
LCD screen is always on or off unexpectedly Normal operation (screen off) or fault. During normal operation, the screen is off. If it's constantly on or showing an error, refer to the indicator lights. The battery icon on the display does not represent charge.

9. User Tips

  • Not a Smart Device: This CO detector operates independently and does not connect to any mobile applications (e.g., Meross App, Apple HomeKit, Tuya Smart). It provides local alerts only.
  • CO Detection Only: This device is specifically designed to detect carbon monoxide. It will not detect other gases like LPG, natural gas, methane, or smoke from fires. For comprehensive safety, consider installing separate smoke and gas detectors.
  • Screen Behavior: During normal operation, the LCD screen will be off to conserve battery and avoid disturbance. The green light will flash every 50 seconds to indicate it's working properly.
  • Battery Icon: Do not rely on the battery icon on the LCD display for charge status; it is not functional for this purpose. Pay attention to the yellow 'Low Battery' indicator light.
