5. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter with your ORICO U3-I Flash Drive.

Troubleshooting section: Q1 (capacity inconsistency) and Q2 (speed inconsistency).
Figure 9: Common questions regarding capacity and speed.
Troubleshooting section: Q3 (disk getting hot) and Q4 (cannot read/copy files).
Figure 10: Common questions regarding heat and file access.

5.1 Advertised vs. Real Capacity

The advertised capacity is calculated based on 1MB = 1000KB and 1GB = 1000MB. However, computer operating systems calculate capacity using binary (1MB = 1024KB, 1GB = 1024MB). Additionally, manufacturers install basic data and drivers, resulting in a real usable capacity of approximately 91% of the advertised capacity.

5.2 Advertised vs. Real Speed

To achieve advertised speeds, ensure your computer supports the USB 3.2 Gen1 protocol. USB 2.0 (black interface) supports a maximum of 60MB/s, while USB 3.0 (blue interface) supports a maximum of 625MB/s. Actual speeds can also be affected by the size, format, and quantity of files you copy, as well as your computer's configuration.

5.3 Flash Disk Getting Hot

It is normal for the USB disk to generate heat during operation. The internal chip can safely withstand temperatures up to 70°C. Prolonged high working temperatures can shorten the service life. If the drive feels hot, allow it to stand for 2-3 minutes to cool down before continued use.

5.4 Cannot Read or Copy Files

The default FAT32 disk system typically supports a maximum single file size of 4GB. If you need to transfer a single file larger than 4GB, you must reformat the disk to NTFS or exFAT format. Follow these steps:

  1. Connect the flash drive to your computer.
  2. Right-click on the flash drive icon in 'My Computer' or 'This PC'.
  3. Select 'Format'.
  4. Choose 'NTFS' or 'exFAT' from the 'File System' dropdown menu.
  5. Click 'Start' to begin the formatting process.

If you encounter any other issues, please contact customer service for assistance.
